Well…I think I’m at the “dog with a bone” phase of my guest bedroom makeover. I can’t let it go. I can’t take a break. Even though I have a bazillion things going on in my life right now, I’m on a mission to get this room done. I’m excited, energized and I hope it turns out like the vision in my head.
I am determined to spend less than $50 on this makeover – which means I have to use items I already have in my house or Jennifer’s. So far, so good but I’m still a long way from being done. I’ve made a to-do list that I am slowly but surely checking off.
Which brings me to today’s post. In the guest room I needed a different side table. I got this table last year from an antique dealer friend for a great price. The garden gate doors were off and it looked like it had a few too many coats of paint. I counted five different colors.
I decided to be lazy with this particular piece of furniture. It’s not for a client so I opted to not sand down the drips and paint bubbles. In my opinion, these things add character to the piece. I had a clear vision of what I wanted the colors to be. If you saw the bedroom curtains yesterday in our DIY Curtain Rod post, then you already know the colors I chose 🙂
The hardest part of this project was reattaching the door fronts back onto the hinges. I could not have done it without Jennifer coming to the rescue 🙂 It was definitely a two-girl-job!
I know that this is a terrible picture! I had already loaded paint onto my brush when I realized I hadn’t taken a photo with the doors attached. I wanted y’all to see the different colors. I grabbed my iPhone and took this pic…
I painted the exterior with leftover Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White. This piece really pops now with the crisp white color. I also reattached the glass doorknobs…aren’t they cute?
I wanted to clean up the interior too. I painted it Napoleonic Blue by Annie Sloan. This too was leftover paint from this project. I absolutely love it! I may not shut the doors ever again 🙂
My heart palpitates for vintage corbels and architectural trim…
Vintage books in just the right hue…
So…I still have a big to-do list for the guest bedroom makeover, but this is one thing that I can say is complete! Next week I will share with you the table for the other side of the bed!

Just Awesome!!!! Love this re love. Gorgeous.
Thank you so much Kris! We really like how it turned out. Cheers to a great day!
This looks really great!
Love the table transformation! But that corbel! Be still my heart! And I love the background wall. Is it wallpaper or actual reclaimed wood?! Your guest room is going to be so beautiful! You may find yourself vacationing in it more often!
Hey there Liz – That back wall is paper…like wrapping paper. I wish my wall really looked like that! I know you love corbels and architectural finds just as much as I do! I’m excited for the room to be complete…I may travel down the hallway more often 🙂
Wow! I love this!! What a great idea. I would love this piece in my own home 🙂
