Guest Bedroom Makeover Ready for Fall

If you have been following us for awhile, you will know that our guest bedroom has had a couple of makeovers in just as many years. Initially Honey Bee and I thought that our vacation home was just that – our vacation home. We soon realized that instead, this would be our permanent home. Before this decision was made, I was decorating and updating our house as a cottage style lake home. Living here full-time, I don’t need a reminder that this is a lake community. So, I felt the need to give the guest bedroom a makeover and have it ready for fall guests.

Fall Bedroom Tours

Today, along with a several of our blogging friends, we are each sharing our Fall bedrooms. A giant “thank you” to our talented friend Cindy of DIY Beautify for putting this fun tour together!

In the Beginning

When we first bought our home, the guest bedroom was a buttercream yellow color. I always thought the walls looked dirty.

Lake Life

The bedroom walls were painted in Benjamin Moore colors. Three walls were painted in White Dove while the fourth wall was painted in Hale Navy. The Hale Navy served as a backdrop for the nautical decor.

Latest Makeover

Not wanting to paint over the blue wall (at least for now) I figured out decor to achieve a new look without breaking the bank.

Most items in this room are DIY’d at one time or another by me.

Previously I shared how to make these floral no-sew pillows from cloth napkins. Actually, when I found these Kate Spade napkins at HomeGoods they set the tone for creating the entire room. It’s amazing when something like this can spark creativity.

Our headboard was a thrifty purchase from Walmart. It’s made of wood and super sturdy. I shared it in a previous post Our New Headboard.

The power of paint never ceases to amaze me. Last week I showed you how I painted the nightstands for the guest bedroom makeover.

They look so much better now that they are French Blue.

Last year I made floral centerpieces from Dollar Tree styrofoam pumpkins. The neutral one looks great on the nightstand.

Long before I started blogging, I purchased this Eastlake Style dresser from an estate sale. I think I only paid $20 for it.  Initially it had a flakey, orange finish. This was before I knew anything about chalk paint or painted finishes. I just bought some paint and created this vintage finish.

A vintage book page wreath seemed like the perfect thing to hang from the mirror.

Vintage family photos make my heart sing! You can read my tutorial how to make tissue paper photo canvas. Simply put – you print your photo onto gift wrap tissue paper. This photo shows my grandmother, mother and aunt.

Other family favorites are framed in barnwood frames.

I truly hope that you were inspired in some way by this post. Please be sure to visit the 7 other fall bedroom tours. You don’t want to miss a thing!
