I’m sure by now most of us have seen all of the very cute map jewelry that is out there. I have purchased a few pieces of jewelry for myself and as gifts from Etsy and craft shows.
The other day I happened to be in Hobby Lobby and I noticed the different metal charm holders were on clearance. The ones I purchased were marked down to $1.24 and to my surprise were further discounted at the register to .48 cents!!! I purchased all that they had left – which was only six sets 🙁 I don’t know anything about jewelry making, but these sets seem like great quality – real metal frames and real glass inserts.
I figured for this price I could at least give this craft a whirl, and chuck the piece if it didn’t turn out…but it did!! I decided to create a memory piece of our Hawaiian vacation in February. I started with our map of Hawaii (please do not tell Honey Bee that I have ruined his map), exacto knife, charm frames and the chain was $1 in the Home Depot lighting department.
I chose the area of the map that I wanted to commemorate…
…and then laid out the frame and began cutting around it with my exacto knife.
I chose Waikoloa and Captain Cook…
…fit into the frame perfectly.
Voila!! I think it turned out very cute. Side One…
Total materials cost – about $1.50
Total time to create – 5 minutes
Each time I wear it I will be reminded of the wonderful trip Honey Bee and I were fortunate enough to make to the Hawaiian Islands. I will fondly remember the special places we visited and the memories that I hold in my heart 🙂
