Making DIY Waterless Snowglobes is fun and easy!

This month our Thrifty Style Team is offering wonderful Christmas decor ideas. I know that I say it every month, but the creativity of the group continues to blow me away. Make sure to click through the links at the bottom of this post to see their great work! I’m going to show you how making DIY waterless snowglobes is fun and easy to do – not to mention very thrifty.

It all started at the dollar store

On a recent trip to my local Dollar Tree I purchased a few of these snowglobe kits.

The directions called for water and mineral oil added to them to be “real” snowglobes. Since that seemed like a lot of extra work I opted for another idea. After I deconstructed the pieces I gathered the necessary materials.

Prepare to be Amazed

This mason jar lid and ring fit perfectly as a replacement.

Personally I think the metal looks way better than the plastic.

Materials:

  • Snowglobe – mine is from the Dollar Tree. You can use jars.
  • Glue – I used Super Glue. You can use hot glue ot your favorite adhesive of choice.
  • Decorative display items. Examples: mini trees, deer, Santas, ornaments, elves, houses.
  • Faux snow
  • Glitter – optional

Deer are one of my favorite creatures and subsequent Christmas decor items. I found a packet of these mini deer 10 for $1.00. The white bottlebrush tree is from my stash, but it was less than $1.00.

1. Glue miniature pieces to the inside of the lid ring.

2. Add faux snow and glitter to the globe. Put the two pieces together and secure tightly.

Adding glitter is not necessary, but I love the shimmer that it gives to the snowglobe. Plus the glitter tends to stick a little bit to the sides of the interior globe and gives it a twinkle like snow.

This is so cute and it only took me a few minutes to make – my favorite kind of project. I especially love how versatile this can be.

DIY waterless snowglobes would make great gifts for your friends and hostess’ too. I hope you give it a try.
