Hey there…we hope your week is going well. We are busy making holiday lists and wishing time would slow down just a bit š We have a lot of holiday items we want to share with you and one of them is this cute burlap tote bag.
I purchased this bag last year and never got around to doing anything with it. I did use my 40% off coupon which makes this bag just over $8.00.
I had a definite idea in mind of what I wanted to create. It was just a matter of finding exactly what I needed. I needed a small piece of red plaid fabric. I purchased this men’s shirt from the thrift store. It still had the original tags on it – I purchased it for $1.00. I also washed it before I used it in this project.
I love this Heat-n-Bond Ultra-hold iron-on adhesive paper. It is a durable product that I use in our no-sew crafts.
This glossy side is placed face down on top of the backside, or wrong side of your fabric.
Set your iron to medium heat, being sure not to use steam, and iron the paper well for 2 seconds over all – not missing any spots.
You can now add your design to the paper. I drew aĀ veryĀ rudimentary design of a deer head – pretty certain Ralph Lauren won’t be calling me to license my design for his next collection š
He looks much better in his pretty plaid, right?
Pull the paper backing off…you can see the glossy adhesive on the back of the fabric. The glossy side of the cutout was then placed on top of the burlap tote. After I was sure it was exactly where I wanted it, I carefully ironed it into place. Using a medium heat iron with no steam, each section was ironed firmly for 8 seconds. This perfectly bonds the deer head without having to sew it into place.
I felt the bag need a little extra embellishment for my personal use. I added rag strips and a jingle bell.
I think this is a perfect bag for when I go out Christmas shopping. This would also make an excellent gift for a special someone…hostess, teacher, friend. There are endless design possibilities. What would you create?
Super cute ladies! I love the plaid deer and the jingle bell puts it over the top. Another great gift idea!
