Do y’all have your Thanksgiving plans set? John and I don’t have any big plans this year but I decided I still wanted to change up my Fall table and make it a bit different for Turkey Day. I don’t have the entire table completely decorated yet but I knew what I wanted it to look like.
I wanted to start by making tassels from simple jute twine. I also wanted to incorporate mementos into the tassel…like a skeleton key from Jennifer’s wedding and one of my grandma’s vintage buttons.
…and the cardboard center from a paper towel roll. I flattened the roll and cut it in half.I began wrapping the twine around the cardboard about 15 times.
I then cut a piece of twine that I thread through the top and securing with a knot.
I cut another piece of twine and wrapped it around the top of the twine creating a bundle. I continued knotting the twine several times.
I then cut the bottom loops so that they now freely hang…
Each twine was unwrapped – there three threads of twine per piece.
Ā I then evened out the tassel by trimming the ends…like a hair cut.
I added the skeleton key and the button to the tassel.
Then, the really fun part began…I started to put together just one place setting. I kept the pumpkins and gourds on the table, but I added navy and white dishes…
…and hand painted the Thankful card.
I think I’m going to keep going – I really love how this is coming together. The tassels add an earthy element and pairs so well with the formal place setting. What do y’all think?
This is totally fantastic! I can imagine these on a Christmas tree, tie backs for curtains, hanging off a vintage door knob, present embellishment or on this gorgeous table. Once again you ladies have given us a genius project with so many creative uses. Thanks for sharing!
