Hey there…we hope y’all had a great weekend! We were so excited to have been invited to participate in a Tour Through Blogland by our friend Renee from The Refined Relic. Renee has fabulous style and mad painting skills 🙂 We loved seeing a glimpse into Renee’s farmhouse and having the opportunity to get to know her a little better. You can too by visiting her blog here.
You may be asking – what exactly is a Tour Through Blogland? It’s where we get the opportunity to share a bit about ourselves, our homes and our blog. Because Jennifer and I are a packaged deal – you’ll get double the information from us 🙂 It’s a chance to introduce you to other blogs and bloggers, similar to us. Does it surprise you that we read blogs too? We love to have a chance to see what other creative minds are up to.
So sit back with that cup of coffee…or glass of wine, and lets get started. Renee brought the tour from Zebulon, NC to greet us here in Atlanta, GA.
What Are We Working On?
Vicki: It’s probably easier to say what I’m not working on 🙂 I’ve recently been sidelined by a broken ankle which has really prohibited me from doing anything. I’ve had to get very creative with projects that can be accomplished from the sofa. Prior to this injury I was actively working on my laundry room and master bedroom. Look for these projects to post in a couple of months 🙂 These rooms have already been painted and are just waiting for me to add some layers of magic!
Jennifer: While actively blogging, I also have a day-job as a travel consultant. As a matter of fact, today I depart for Ireland for a ten day business trip…somebody has got to do it :). Another giant focus for me is my wedding in the Fall!! We have been busy creating a lot of the decor elements ourselves. Needless to say there is a lot on my plate right now but I am managing to keep it all together. On the home front I am updating by guest room sprucing up the entryway and adding some touches to the master bedroom.
How Does Our Work Differ From Others in My Genre?
Well…we think we are different because we write and work together as a mother/daughter team. We jokingly say “…together we make one good person”. We are very close and have similar tastes. We like most of the same design elements – rustic, vintage, DIY – we just decorate with them differently. We are also great at bouncing ideas off of each other and terrific at problem solving. It’s wonderful to have a business/blogging partner that you can create wonderful moments with. It certainly doesn’t hurt that we are related and love each other 🙂
Why Do We Write/Create What We Do?
Vicki: I have been creating and DIYing for as long as I can remember. My mother (Jennifer’s grandmother) was absolutely my role model. I grew up watching her make our house a warm and cozy home. My mom was a fabulous seamstress! I watched her create curtains, tablecloths, dishcloths – well, you get the idea. My mom also made all of my clothes for me – and I was super proud to wear whatever she made. When I was ten-years-old I was allowed to decorate my own bedroom! What fun I had choosing fabric from the discount bin and sewing my own curtains. I also made a macramé plant hanger than hung over my bed. You can say it…I was cool 🙂 I love making something out of little or nothing. My favorite part of a transformation is using my creativity for as little money as I can spend.
My dad was a huge influence too. I was the oldest child in my family – so I was daddy’s helper. I learned at a very early age the difference between a flathead or Phillips screwdriver or a ball pean or claw hammer. I used my first power tool at age seven when my dad let me hold the saw while he guided my hand when cutting a piece of plywood…pretty powerful stuff 🙂
Jennifer: As mom mentioned, she’s been DIYing since she was a child, so it was only natural for me to pick up on it too 🙂 Growing up she was always doing DIY projects and designs on a dime. She also loved going to antique stores and auctions, which as a child I honestly couldn’t stand, but I eventually grew to love them! I also think she has made every single curtain I have ever had, including now. I’m definitely not afraid to get my hands dirty and try new things. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t, but that’s the fun of it. I love being able to find a piece of furniture on the side of the road that someone is throwing away, but I can see its potential and bring it back to life. Or the best is when an idea just comes to you and you can’t wait to try it out. It’s just fun to see what you can create with your mind and a few tools…that’s what gets me excited about DIY 🙂
How Does Our Writing/Creative Process Work?
For us, it’s about the project. When our creative juices are flowing, everything runs fairly smoothly. We love when we think of a project, have all necessary materials on hand, and the project is quickly completed. Now, it doesn’t always happen this way…but when it does it also makes writing about it easier. It’s kind of like the creativity is still flowing and the words come out with ease. We love to either relate a story or a tutorial as if the reader is right in the room with us. We want you just as excited as we are about what we just created and to give you the confidence that you can do it too!
We can’t thank you enough for joining us on this Tour Through Blogland! If you would like to know anything else, don’t hesitate to ask!

CoCo – you are so sweet! We would love a chance to host you in Atlanta! The sooner…the better!
I just knew I was going to be in love with how your houses were decorated! So fun learning a little more about my other favorite mother/daughter blogging team!! 🙂
P.S. that little space with the open shelving and that gorgeous white dresser/buffet…I want to knock a giant hole in my wall so I can make one in my house exactly like it! Love, love, love it!!!!
That space is in my dining room. The buffet used to have a china cabinet on top. I got rid of the top and painted the bottom. My brothers friend made the rustic floating shelves for me. Now I love the dining room!! Thank so much:)
