You know how much I love a super simple makeover, right? Thanks to the power of paint – specifically spray chalky paint, today’s project was completed in a matter of seconds, sans drying time. It doesn’t get much faster than that! I did a makeover on this decor accessory:
I’m not even sure what to call it…artichoke, acorn, obelisk, objet d’art? I’m sticking with acorn. As you can see, it’s not definitively blue, green or gray. The bottom line is it needed to have a makeover. I understand to most of you this looks perfectly fine the way that it is. I used to agree with you. Sometimes no matter how hard I try, not all decor accessories work in the house.
This piece has been relegated to the closet for several years now. When I moved it almost got donated, but something pulled at me to take it out of the donate box. The acorn is pretty, has some weight to it and I love the lines on it. Here is the problem with this piece – it clashes with all colors, no matter what it is paired with. It has a chameleon like finish that alters how everything looks that it was paired with. If I placed it amongst gray items it looked almost jade green. Paired with blue decor it looked sickly gray. It just didn’t look good with anything, anywhere in the house.
Currently, I am working on giving my entryway a makeover. I needed different objects and decor accessories to place on the foyer table. Remembering that this acorn was in the closet I knew exactly what I was going to do with it. In a box in the garage I had a leftover can of spray chalky spray paint in white and knew it would be perfect for this makeover!
After one quick coat of spray chalky paint my little acorn looked fabulous.
You can never go wrong with classic white. This accessory can now be used in any room of my house.
It even looks great paired with weathered wood. Again, I realize that it looked good before. But now I love the new finish and this acorn won’t be stuffed in the closet anymore.
I can’t wait for you to see it in my newly made-over entryway. I hope to have everything complete by next week!
