Sharing our styled secretary shelves decor with you at the new house using neutral decor items, as well as some yellow.
Today I am finally sharing a decorated space in the new house! Well maybe not an entire space, but my secretary shelves decor will have to do. I’ve had this secretary for years. It is a wonderful piece of painted furniture that mom did. It used to be in the foyer in our old house, which you can see here. Now, it’s home is in between the living room and dining room.
I would show you the living room space, but we need a new tv for above the mantel. The one we had before looks tiny on the wall haha. Once we have that, the living room will be complete! Aside from the kitchen and living room bookshelves, the secretary shelves were one of the first things to be decorated. When styling shelves, we like to lay out all of the items we have in our arsenal. Then we start to add things one by one, moving things around, taking away, etc. until we achieve the look we’re going for. Which we honestly don’t know what that is most of the time until we say, “that’s it!” Can anyone else relate?
I have a lot of neutral decor that I love to have on display, as well as a ton of books to decorate with. If you know mom and I, we decorate with books all the time. It’s a great way to fill a space and add a little more height.
Since warmer weather is upon us, I also wanted to add a little bit of color with the yellow pieces.
The yellow books are Nancy Drew books I found at an antique store and they have served me well in my decor throughout the years.
Of course I need to incorporate this awesome bee skep as well!
Don’t you just love the detail on the top of this secretary? We were so nervous it would break during the move, but lucky for us it made it. I thought about adding some plants on top that hang over the sides, but might take away from the detail. What do you think?
And of course my little helper, always at the ready! Sadie just can’t help, but be in the action sometimes.
I promise that I will be showing more of my new house soon. Most spaces are about complete minus an item or two. We are getting there and I cannot wait to show you the rest!
