In our family we officially kick off the Christmas holiday season with our favorite foods and special bevs. This year it’s all about this salted caramel eggnog cocktail!

Thank goodness eggnog is only served between Thanksgiving and New Year’s. Seriously. I would need a support group or Over Eggnogger’s Anonymous or something of the like if this were available year-round. That’s how much I love eggnog, as most people in my family do. We just can’t get enough of this yummy, sweet Christmas miracle in a cup. And now this year I have kicked it up a notch and made it even more decadent with a Salted Caramel Eggnog Cocktail.

Full disclosure, I have included my mother’s delicious homemade eggnog recipe. But I rarely go to the trouble of making it. Our Publix grocery store has their own brand of delicious eggnog and I buy it every year. It is thick, creamy and perfect for the holidays. No need to go to all of the trouble and time unless you are a purist who insists on the absolute best.

New Discovery

Here’s another YUM alert! This “Knock Your Socks Off Salty Caramel” is the real deal! It tastes just like I made it myself. It truly tastes just like old fashioned caramel which also makes this ideal for an easy cocktail recipe. This caramel was very easy to drizzle down the inside of each glass and made a pretty presentation.

Again, here’s the eggnog recipe if you would like to make homemade.

Mom's Best Homemade Eggnog

Super flavorful and delicious eggnog. Great way to kick off the Christmas season! Can be made without the alcohol.

Servings 8

Ingredients

3 cups ) whole milk

1 cup heavy or double cream

  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 vanilla bean pod split and seeds removed
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg plus more for garnish
  • 5 eggs separated
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup Bacardi Dark Rum or bourbon

Instructions

In a large bowl or stand mixer, beat egg yolks and sugar until combined and thick ribbons form when the whisk is lifted. Slowly whisk in the milk and continue to mix until the mixture is combined and smooth. Add bourbon or rum, and stir. Refrigerate overnight or for up to 3 days.

  1. Before serving, beat the egg whites in a large bowl or stand mixer until soft peaks form. Gently fold into eggnog until combined. Serve and garnish with freshly grated nutmeg.

Each glass was garnished with a gold straw, gold bell and bow. Trust me, this was as delicious as it looks!

You can omit the alcohol for more of a dessert type beverage. Either way you will not be disappointed.

I hope you give this a try during the Christmas season. Now let’s see what everyone else has brought to the Christmas Party!
