Sometimes we surprise ourselves as to where our creative inspiration comes from. The other day we were decorating the She Shed for Christmas and Jennifer held up a chalkboard deer on a stick. She lamented that she wished she had bought more than just one of them last year. We discussed what it could be used for during a cocktail party. A short time later during a separate conversation we talked about party food, cheese trays and which cheeses were our faves. And then inspiration struck…we could make the chalkboard deer on a stick into cute cheese marker tags.

We headed out to Michael’s craft store in the hopes of finding more. To our dismay, we couldn’t locate any of them in the store. But, we did find blank raw wood deer skewers. Happily we discovered that they were marked $1.00 a piece and discounted 70% off. That means each of these were only .30 cents each!

We took the easy route and painted each deer with two coats of black acrylic craft paint. After they dried completely, we cut down each skewer for varying heights. Using a chalk pen we wrote out our cheese selections.
