Hey there…we hope you’re having a great week – the weekend is almost in sight. Jennifer and I are hosting a party on Sunday, so there needs to be lots of cleaning and cooking at my house before our guests arrive. Being out of commission sure has me at a disadvantage – I constantly feel like I’m trying to catch-up with some imaginary timeline š I’m so ready to entertain and excited to see our friends! We will have lots to share with you I’m sure.
Have you been bitten by the “I need to start decorating for Christmas” bug yet? I don’t have the first decoration up from the basement yet, but I feel my treasures calling my name. I’m fairly certain if we weren’t having our get together this Sunday a few of those boxes would have made their way up the stairs šĀ For the moment I’m happy creating some Christmas crafts and planning out my holiday season.
The project I’m sharing with y’all today was total Kismet…all the pieces just fell into place. After seeing this photo in the Pottery Barn holiday catalog, I knew exactly what I was going to make. I couldn’t wait to recreate Pottery Barns Peace Symbol – isn’t it pretty?
Except…I wasn’t going to make a pillow, I made wall art:
On a thrift shopping excursion back in April, I purchased this vintage, oversized embroidery hoop for $1.00 !!! This thing is the real deal. I don’t know what it was initially used for but this is a 38 inch round hoop! Items I used were:
- Embroidery hoop
- Fabric
- Round cardboard cutout
- Glass Beads
- 3 different shades of gold acrylic craft paint
- Silver glitter glue
Luckily for me, I had everything on hand except the glass beads. A quick trip to Hobby Lobby with my trusty coupon remedied that problem real quick š
I did a rough outline around the cardboard circle with gold paint. Being that this is a hand-painted replica the painting didn’t need to be perfect.
I began layer the paints…
…and adding “PEACE” to the artwork.
Then the fun began – adding the silver glitter glue and adding the glass beads.
I topped it off with a metallic gold bow…and here you have it š
I love how it turned out and I think it looks pretty darn close to the Pottery Barn version for a fraction of the cost!!
Have you ever been inspired to create your own version of something that you had seen in a catalog or magazine? We’d love to hear about it. You could give “PEACE” a chance š
This is STUNNING! Its so hard to believe that you made this from thrifted finds. I love the way you layered the metallic paint. Seriously so pretty!
Thanks Coco – we love how it turned out! Truly love the oversized embroidery hoop – I love a great deal that can also serve a new purpose!
I love this idea. So simple and unique. Who needs the Pottery Barn when you have 2 Bees in a Pod. š I will be sharing this idea. Have a great day.
I’m a sucker for glitter! I love it! so cute.
Vicki & Jennifer, oh my gosh I remember seeing the pretty pillow on their website…..but I LOVE what you did even better. That is awesome and so pretty. You know I lOVE bling too!! The more the merrier!!
Great idea! I’m always so inspired by Pottery Barn and I love that you decided to do something different with their idea. Love!
Using that embroidery hoop – GENIUS!! Love when a random find becomes something special. I like this better than the PB pillow š Bwg ~~~
