Is it wrong of me to boast for a quick second? My passion is decorating my home as well as homes of clients and friends. But the thing that I am most proud of is that I can do it on a budget. I actually get excited when I can create a room makeover or a new project with little to no cost. Being that all of my Fall decor is in storage, I have had to get very creative. Yes, I could go out and buy a lot of things to fill my home and my Fall-loving-heart full of pumpkins, gourds and pretties. But my spirit just won’t let me do it. I would much prefer to create things that are special and meaningful to me and easy on my wallet. Today’s project is a perfect example as it cost me $1.01 to make. I did a painted frame makeover and created a free Fall printable.
This 8×10 frame was a thrift store purchase of $1.01! The frame was a bit too dark for my home decor and a tad beat up. I knew exactly what I needed to do to create a simple fall decor art piece.
The frame needed to be painted, first and foremost.
I wiped clean the entire frame. I literally had just enough chalk paint at the bottom of this can to be able to paint two coats onto the frame.
When the frame was completely dry, I used 220 grit sandpaper to distress the frame. I wanted it to have a more rustic and weathered look. I then added a single coat of dark wax to the entire frame front.
I created this cute Fall printable to place into the frame. Free artwork! These are all of our favorite things about the fall season.
The best part? This artwork is free for you too. You can download the free fall printable right now.

This sweet concrete owl was another great deal. I found him last week at my local garden center for 90% off from $8.00. So, he was a grand total of .80 cents!
The distressing of the frame is my favorite part. It adds so much depth and character.
I chose to print the Fall printable onto white card stock for a more realistic art print. Feel free to print it on anything that you like.
My sincerest wish is to inspire you to create lovely things for your own home. They don’t need to cost a lot of money to be beautiful or meaningful. I can’t wait to see what you create!
