Master Closet Makeover...Part 1

Well, we have always told you we would be honest and real. I can’t believe that I am going to share the inner sanctum of my terribly messy master bedroom closet – a dirty little secret. Let me preface (excuse) why it got to this point. I never liked this closet. It is of good size yet it is awkwardly shaped – kind of like an offset triangle. The shelves on the left never wanted to stay connected to the wall. The shelves were also very shallow. Being that the previous closet installation was inexpensive wire it made it difficult to store anything. Shoes were not practical on the shelves therefore, I bought the canvas shoe system as a solution. Purses were too large for the shelving too.

So, here it what it used to look like…

In the photo above – I can’t tell you how many times those canvas bins fell on top of my head. At some point – I can’t remember when, I just gave up and started to trash the closet. I did a pretty good job didn’t I?

In the photo below – the right side of the closet had two giant shelves that went the width of the closet. The problem being that the bottom hanging shelf was hung too low and not practical to hang anything – most shirts and skirts were too long to hang here. Another issue was that there wasn’t anywhere to hang dresses or pants.

So, one day – lucky for me – unlucky for Honey Bee there was a leak in my closet. The leak was in the hallway outside of our closets and in the entryway to my closet. At that time, we fortunately had a wonderful crew working on our deck and the exterior of the house doing some painting and carpentry repairs. They assured my husband that they could easily make repairs and paint the affected areas of water damage.

Everything had to be removed from my closet.

At this point – I decided that I wanted my closet painted 🙂 So the wire shelving and racks had to be removed in readiness for the new paint color.

All of the existing holes were patched and sanded. I was assured that they could properly rehang the shelving and racks in a more stable way. I just about cried – I really hated all of this wire system!!

And then (insert the music of the Angels) Honey Bee went out of town :)) and a whole new plan was hatched!

I asked my new best friends if they could make me a better closet if I could roughly draw something up. They readily answered “We can do whatever you want” – my kinda guys 🙂
