Hey y’all…I know that a lot of you have asked to see certain rooms of my home that I have never shown before. Well, today is the day – I am giving you a full home tour and sharing some news.

There has been a lot going on behind the scenes at my house for the past few weeks. Honey Bee and I have decided to venture towards the “D” word…downsize. We have been fortunate to live in our beautiful home for 14 years, but it is just too large for the two of us. So, we made the decision to sell our house. Four weeks ago we began purging, cleaning and perfecting our home for the real estate market. Our home was officially on the market Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon we had a contract! AND we have a back-up offer!

Now we wait for the home inspection and appraisal…

…and then the real work begins. Where.Will.We.Live? Currently we have no clue.

We don’t want to rush into anything and make a hasty decision. We do know that we want to move into town also known as ITP – Inside The Perimeter of Atlanta. We would preferably want to move closer to Jenn and Kara too. Honey Bee is leaning towards condo living but I am not sold on this idea. I would prefer a door that opens to a small patch of grass as opposed to a concrete balcony.

Being that we can’t agree at the present moment, we may rent somewhere in town. The good thing is that we have plenty of options. The bad thing is that this is happening fast and furious…but it is very exciting!

Can I backtrack for just a minute? The past four weeks have been tough! I couldn’t figure out why I had so much crap and why it was taking me so long to clean. I had a couple of revelations:

  • This was the longest amount of time I have lived in one home in my adult life.
  • I like to hold onto items for “just in case” – I need purple glass, turquoise plates, etc. This list is large.
  • I had a LOT of emotional clutter that I had not dealt with in years. Items that belonged to my mom. Gifts. Duplicate copies of photographs, childhood memories, Jenn’s childhood memories – there was a lot to deal with and purge.
  • Lots and lots of craft supplies.

As hard as it was to purge, toss and donate – I did it and I am better for it. I feel lighter and brighter and ready to move forward to this next step in my life.

Home tour and some news

So we will be very busy the next few weeks. We will manage to sneak in a little mini vacay to the beach as a treat for all of our hard work. As soon as we return I imagine we will need to begin packing and prepping for our move. Any volunteers?

We will still be blogging. We are actively working on creating Jenn’s Master Bedroom Closet for the One Room Challenge™ – Look for an update tomorrow.

XO~Vicki

  1. Your house is beautiful and I can see why it sold so quickly! I’m with you on having too much stuff. How does it accumulate so easily? Good luck on your search for a new “hive”!

    1. Hey Angie – after getting over the emotional clutter, letting go felt so good! 14 years worth of junk took a long time to go through LOL. So happy to be on the other side of it now 🙂

  2. So excited for you! And, you have a beautiful home, but that’s no surprise 🙂 Enjoy your next chapter of life. Can’t wait to see what’s next…new adventures in decorating for sure! Hugs!

    1. You are so sweet Kimm – thank you. We have loved this home but we are so ready to downsize and can’t wait to see where we end up!

  4. Whohoo! Good for you! That’s such exciting news, I can’t wait to see where you decide to live!
I’m not surprised your house sold so fast, it’s really beautiful!
    What an exciting time!

    1. Girl…you didn’t prepare me for how long it takes to get a house ready for market! This was tons of work…but it definitely paid off! How exciting that we are both moving at the same time! Your new place looks beautiful! We may live in temporary housing for a bit until we can decided where we want to live. In the big city there are just too many decisions LOL. Best wishes!

  5. Vicki your home is gorgeous and it will sell so quickly. We are closing on our new town home this Friday so we too went back and forth on going into a town home. I think it will be great when we want to travel etc. and the lawn and snow removal is done for us. We do have a back yard with the town home so I can still have my garden flowers. It is a big decision but one I know you will love.
    Hugs,
    Kris

    1. Hey Kris – yes…our house sold the first 12 hours it was on the market! Congrats on your new home!! Such exciting times. Everything is happening so quickly we aren’t even sure where we are going to live LOL. Your new place sounds perfect…cant wait to see it 🙂

  6. My whole house will fit inside your master bath! 😁

    1. Hey Holly…we have definitely been spoiled! We are definitely ready to downsize – no need for all of this space, or cleaning LOL.

  7. Your house is absolutely beautiful Vicki! And congrats on selling your home so quickly. Best wishes for inspections and finding a new place to live!

    1. Thanks so much Tara! It’s definitely been a challenge getting the house ready and starting the ORC at Jenn’s house. I think we kinda thrive on the adrenaline rush LOL.

  8. Your house is absolutely jaw-droppingly GORGEOUS!! I know I’ve told you this before but you have such great taste. I’m not surprised that people are tripping over each other trying to buy your house. Can’t wait to see where this new chapter takes you and what your new home will look like!

    1. Amy – you are so kind and generous. This house was a definite labor of love for me but it is just too much house for the two of us. I’m ready for one floor living LOL. I would also love to live in an older cottage with some character. It’s fun to see where we will end up!

  9. This was us five years ago. We bought a townhouse with s courtyard, and there’s a little dirt for flowers and herbs. Getting rid of stuff was sooooo freeing. Now I think twice before buying anything that’s a want and not a need.

    1. Hey Jeanette – your home sounds lovely and just like what we are looking for. I would really like a small cottage with some age and character and not a lot of yard…low maintenance living. It is going to be fun to see where we end up!

  10. I’m so thrilled for you. It’s always such a relief to have the house sold. The rest of this adventure can now move on your time table. Your house is so beautiful and spacious, I am not surprised it sold so quickly. You did such a wonderful job with the decor. Hope to see you soon in Atlanta. Best to you and the family as you start this wonderful new chapter.,

    1. Hey Susie – Thank you so very much! It’s a little panic-inducing at how quickly this is all happening but it is definitely exciting! Can’t wait to see where we end up!

  11. Bambi Mullinax says:

Absolutely beautiful! I have had the good fortune to be a guest many times in this beautiful home, so I’m selfishly going to miss it, especially “my room!” I’m so excited for the two of you as you make this move. I have no doubt that wherever you settle will be as charming and beautiful as the home that you are leaving.

Is it too early to make “reservations” for the new place? :))
    Bambi

    1. Dearest Bambi – Your “room” will always be available, no matter where we live. These are definitely exciting times ahead and we can’t wait to see what the future holds or where we will end up. No matter what, you are always welcome anytime, anywhere!

  12. Vicki, I think all of it is my favorite. It looks amazing. Can’t wait to see what neighborhood you pick. So many great places in the Atlanta area. I was just down there visiting my parents and sister last weekend. I used to live in Virginia Highlands. But so much has changed in the last 16 years. Good Luck with the sale.

    Brooke

  13. Vicki this is all so exciting! You created a lovely home and I’m sure lovely memories as well. New chapters are in your future and I can’t wait to hear about them.

  14. No wonder this home sold in such a short amount of time! It’s totally gorgeous. I love every room. I know it’s been a lot of work for you over the past few weeks. I’m really proud of you and all that you’ve accomplished. I know it was hard….but you made it…do you hear Barry Manilow right now? ME TOO!

  15. Vicki, Your house is gorgeous! Last year we did what you are looking at doing…. downsized and moved closer in. We’re not quite ITP, but much closer than we were. We are loving it! I think the older you get the more you realize how many ways you could better use your time than in the car. Good luck!

  16. Oh, bummer! I guess I clicked Comment before adding my post. What a great idea, though! Thanks for doing that.

  17. Congrats on the sell of your home. It is so beautiful. I know you will find another place you love and is easier to take care of. Exciting times for you and your husband.

  18. Your house is out of this world gorgeous. But I understand why you are ready to downsize. Congratulations on the quick sale of the house and to your new adventure.

  19. Stunning House! No wonder it was sold immediately.

You must be excited for what the future brings. I do not doubt that either rental or a new house, you will make it stunning again. 🙂
