Hey y’all…I know it’s hard to believe, but I want to talk to you today about shopping. Specifically, shopping for bargains and deals at estate sales. Last week we introduced you to the online estate sale group of Everything But The House. Today is all about shopping estate sales in person.
Jennifer and I are asked all of the time where we find our “stuff”. We shop thrift stores, antique shops, yard sales, auctions and estates sales. We are always on the hunt for great deals and quality items. Have you ever been to an estate sale?
You definitely need to give it a try. Don’t let the word “estate” deter you. An estate sale, also called a tag sale according to where you live, is a way of liquidating the belongings of a family or an estate. These sales are much more than a garageĀ or yard sale. They are typically schedule when someone is in need of a way to sell items due to a move, downsizing, divorce, etc. A professional company is hired to handle the entire set up…emptying cabinets, closets and drawers for pricing.

Thursday my sweet friend Liz from Mississippi visited Atlanta and we hit the estate sale trail. I also visited a sale on Friday on my own. Here’s a collection of what I purchased:
Full disclosure, Liz gifted me the globe from one of the estate sales. It’s probably because she knew I was going to pout that she found it first and got such a great deal…$8.00.
How about this antique table for $10? The top is in rough shape but I have big plans for it. This table is heavy and the real deal as far as age is concerned. The price tag was higher but I nicely asked for a better deal…and they nicely obliged. Stay tuned for the makeover!
I’m a sucker for vintage metal too. Does anyone know what this copper pan was used for?
I was thrilled to score this fabulous trophy. They are usually hard to come by and especially at a good price. This one is very large and sold to me for a cool $3!!! I know you hate me š
I love ironstone and have a small collection. This beautiful soup tureen isn’t authentic ironstone but it is heavy and has a marking on the bottom. This was a $2 purchase.
Isn’t the finial pretty?
I also scored some wonderful Fall decor.
This oak splint picnic basket is handmade. Can’t wait to use this with the red plaid wool blanket at the lake.
Love the “Happy Fall Y’all” sign. I can’t wait to use these items in the house within the next few weeks.
My new globe has a permanent spot in our Coastal Inspired Guest Bedroom.
So…when all is said and done, I think I spent a grand total of $38!
Admittedly, all estate sales are not as fruitful. There have been times when I have left a sale empty handed or a particular sale was very over priced. Just be sure to keep trying. In our area, the Fall has the most significant amount of sales.
I hope you give estate sales a try. They are fun – and addicting. There is something for everyone…furniture, tools, household goods, collectibles and antiques. Happy shopping!
You guys found some amazing things! You know you need to ship the basket, blanket, and trophy to Florida. They’re calling my name. Love it all, Coco
Are you sure you’re not missing another digit in that final cost? $38 must be a typo! I’ll arm wrestle ya’ll for that trophy, lol! Incredible deals!!
What a great shopping weekend! I had so much fun on our outing. LOVE the trophy!š
Wowsie amazing finds!!!! Love that dark blue globe. How cool is that.
Kris
Vicki, you scored some amazing finds!! I’ve never had luck Estate Saling because we’ve always felt the prices were too high, but I may have to give it another chance. You found some great things and that dark globe is totally you. Love it, Lisa
I love auctions and estate sales. Its a great to get good deals. Love your picnic basket and all the wonderful finds. The table is fantastic.
I appreciate your creativity and frugality!
My house is loaded with almost 20 years of estate sale purchases. They are the best, especially when on last day, things are discounted 50 – 75%. 24-7 Estate Sales is another website I use in Texas to search. You found wonderful stuff!
That are some awesome finds! So jealous of the ironstone….Take me shopping with you?! š
