A few weeks ago Jennifer and I had one of those fabulous yard sale shopping days…you know the kind I mean. Each stop was better than the next. We brought home quite the mother lode. At one of our stops we purchased these antique books for the grand investment of .50 cents. Now, the books aren’t in great condition as you can see. They are each from the late 1800’s and have seen better days. We bought them with then intention of taking them apart for paper crafts. The pages are wonderfully aged and have the perfect antique patina.
I’ve been making paper flowers of all types for as long as I can remember. I wanted to use these vintage book pages to make paper roses. Here’s all you need:
- Book pages or newspaper – I prefer vintage
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
Lets get started!
Tear out a book page…
…and cut it into a circle. This does not have to be perfect at all!
On this rose I chose to lightly scallop cut the circle.
Spiral cut each circle into the center until it looks like this…
Grab the end tip and begin rolling…
Keep rolling until you get to the end…
Let go of you spiral cone – it will loosen up a bit and you can begin to see the rose taking shape.
Put hot glue on the end circle – the center of your spiral cut…
…and keep going 🙂 I wasn’t able to stop! This is such a quick project. I literally made eight roses in five minutes!!
I used craft paper to create leaves…again, just roughly cut.
I created an original gift bag for a friend. I just hot glued the roses and leaves into place.
I think this turned out very cute. I hope my friend likes it!!!
I’m not stopping – I hope to create a wreath of paper roses from vintage book pages!! Give this craft a try – it’s tons of fun 🙂
Love these ideas! So enjoy reading and using book pages for decor….Blessings!
