DIY Painted Polka Dot Napkins and Spring Table Decor
We hope that by now Spring has finally arrived at your doorstep. Here in Atlanta we have been fairly fortunate to have some truly beautiful days. I love the burst of color in my neighborhood – everything is in bloom! Redbuds, cherry trees, daffodils, Bradford pears and forsythia – all right on my own street and in my own yard.
I’ve been working on several projects of late and I continue to work on my dining room table decor. I recently shared a tutorial with you on how to make moss covered eggs. If you missed that post you can read all about it here.
This week I will show you how to change your cloth dinner napkins. I created polka dot painted napkins. I have stacks of napkins in my house. The following napkins are leftover from Easter dinner a couple of years ago…
I decided I wanted to change them up a little bit for Spring. I used watered-down acrylic craft paint and a round sponge pounce for my painted polka dot napkins.
- 3 parts acrylic craft paint
- 1 part water
It is very important to not add too much water as the paint will not not be the right consistency on the fabric.
I laid out the napkins and put wax paper underneath to protect my tabletop.
I poured my paint and water mixture on a paper plate. I then dipped the pouncer into the mixture and blotted the pouncer a couple of times so as not to saturate the fabric napkin. I started adding polka dots in rows. I didn’t measure out polka dot placement – i just eyeballed it 🙂
I continued this method on all of my napkins…
I used these cute terra cotta pots as napkin holders. I can’t believe that I made these napkin holders more that 15 years ago 🙂
These painted napkins turned out so cute! I love all of the colors…
I used leftover wrapping paper as a table runner. The color was great and tied into my overall decor scheme – I had just enough left 🙂
When I do floral centerpieces in my home, I find store bought flowers to be very costly. I purchased this potted floral plant from the hardware store for $5.98. I cut a lot of the flowers and used them in aqua Mason jars. The best part? The plant still looks lush and full of flowers and I can plant it in the yard 🙂
Don’t these colors look fabulous together?
Still decorating and getting everything into place…
Isn’t this chevron wrapping paper cute as a table runner?
I lucked out at Target. How adorable are these felt flowers? Four flowers for .50 cents! I couldn’t make them for that amount!
I randomly placed them around the table and they pair perfectly with the polka dot napkins 🙂
I placed Bunny on the sideboard. Isn’t she sweet? She was made out of vintage barn wood.
If Spring hasn’t reached you yet, I hope all of this bright color has inspired you. and, may your days be warmer and colorful very soon!
How did you make your terra cotta napkin rings?
