Hey y’all…ever since I can remember, I have had a love of record albums. There is just something about the way vinyl sounds that I can’t get enough of. When I moved from North Carolina to Atlanta a few years ago, I was without a record player until I got a new one for Christmas last year. And I was ecstatic! I had missed playing records so much. In my old house, we had a built in bookshelf that easily held the record player. In my new house, I don’t have that feature and was struggling to figure out where I was going to put it. Or rather, what I was going to put it on. I knew I wanted it in the living room, but I could not find the right piece of furniture and was getting frustrated.
I didn’t want to buy anything new and I knew I had to have something in my house I could make work. I went from room to room to see if there was anything I could use and that is when I spotted this…
I have had this hand-me-down bookcase for about 8 years now and it was in need of some TLC. I thought it could work in the living room and become the new home of my record player. But it was one of those things that if I didn’t just do it, I wouldn’t know. I thought, “What the heck?”, it needs to be painted anyways and if it doesn’t work in the living room, I can find another spot for it. I painted it in Paris Grey chalk paint and I’ve got to say, I love how it turned out! Not only did it fit perfectly in its space, but the record player looks great.
I lightly sanded the edges to give is a distressed look…
So often we have things in our homes that just need a little bit of paint and can be completely transformed and take on new life and this chalk painted bookcase is no exception. This really was the perfect addition to our living room, which I am excited to say is almost done! I just need a couple of more accessories and then the room will be complete and I cannot wait. Stay tuned!
