Delicious Blood Orange Martini Cocktail!
I love that Blood Orange season coincides with the holiday season. They are only available from December to about February. Now, I know the name doesn’t conjure up a warm, fuzzy Christmas feeling. But, if you haven’t tried this delicious citrus, you don’t know what you’re missing. Do yourself a favor and pick up a few Blood Oranges the next time you are at the market. The flavor is so different than an average orange. To me the taste is sweeter and tangy but not tart. The flesh really is blood red and the juice looks like punch. Here’s our recipe for a blood orange martini cocktail.
In the past I have used blood oranges in margaritas and mimosas. This year I created a special cocktail for our family dinner, which is this Friday.
Ingredients
- 4 oz of freshly squeezed blood orange juice - approximately 1 1/2 oranges
- 2 oz vodka
- 1 oz orange flavored liqueur
- 1 TBS simple syrup
- orange slice for garnish
- **you may want to taste your cocktail before adding simple syrup - the oranges and liqueur might be all you need for sweetness**
Instructions
Squeeze oranges for fresh juice
Add ice to a martini shaker
Add the juice, vodka, orange liqueur and simple syrup.
Shake, shake, shake
Pour into 2 martini glasses

…and orange liqueur.
Add ice to your cocktail shaker.
Pour in your ingredients…
And shake, shake, shake…
Pour into your martini glasses.
This cocktail is slightly sweet and the color is so pretty.
I made one with a sugar rim and one without, so that my Honey Bee and I could do a taste test. The simple syrup is enough sweetness for this cocktail. The sugar rim is not needed in our opinion. But we kept tasting just to be sure 🙂
With this cocktail you could really use any type of glass for serving. I just prefer the classic martini glass. Plus for a christmas dinner it seems more celebratory.
Have you used blood oranges before?
