No need to suffer with dry winter skin. Here’s an easy DIY lavender sugar scrub remedy to the rescue.
Lavender is a fragrance that I have loved for a long time. In fact, I can recall the very first time I discovered it. When I was about 13 years old my mother and I went to a fashion show at our local department store. We were dressed up, I got to wear the tiniest smidgen of make-up and I was feeling oh-so-grown-up and sophisticated on this special day. The theme of the fashion show was “Strolling Down the Seine”. Upon arrival to the fashion show we were each handed a nosegay of flowers. In the center of the bouquet were the deepest purple blooms with the most intoxicating fragrance – lavender. Needless to say I have been hooked ever since. Today’s DIY lavender sugar scrub is not only fragrant but emollient too.
Here’s the Scoop
Personally, I have lavender buds in an apothecary jar in my guest bathroom.
While they do look pretty added to the sugar scrub they are NOT necessary to the recipe.
Just as I did with the coconut orange sugar scrub recipe, I used room temperature coconut oil. This organic brand is from my local grocery store and was on sale. In fact all of the ingredients I used were from my grocery store and were on sale.
I am not an expert regarding essential oils. There are so many different varieties, strengths, brands, etc. Being that I was using this lavender oil for the purpose of fragrance, that what was I paid attention to. Lavender is also conducive for sleeping and I made a soothing sleep spray.
Interestingly, after showering and using this lavender sugar scrub it has the same calming sleep effect as the lavender spray.
Raw sugar is the scrubbing agent. You can use regular white granulated sugar but it doesn’t have the same scrubbing power so to speak.
Let’s make some!
Lavender Sugar Scrub
Fragrant and emollient DIY sugar scrub using lavender essential oil and organic coconut oil.
- 1 Cup room temperature coconut oil organic - preferred but not necessary
- 1/2 Cup raw cane sugar you may use white granulated sugar but it won't have same scrubbing power
- 15-30 Drops lavender essential oil oil fragrance can be potent - add less and test before adding more
- 1 TBS lavender buds not necessary - just makes it look pretty in the jar
Mix all of the above ingredients together in a bowl. Add the lavender sugar scrub to air tight jar(s).
Note: This recipe makes 3 - 4 ounce jars for gift giving. You can also store this in one mason jar.
This literally takes just 5 minutes to whip up. It’s smooth, creamy and smells so good!
One word of caution – when you add the lavender oil you want to add it sparingly. Essential oils can be potent and as I said earlier each variety is different. It’s best to add less drops of oil and then add more to your preference.
After you make the DIY lavender sugar scrub, be sure to store it in air tight containers. With this recipe I made three 4-ounce mason jars for gift-giving.
You can also store it in one 16 ounce mason jar.
If you would like to, feel free to use the gift tag that I made. Just click the link above!
This DIY lavender sugar scrub will feel fantastic on your winter-dry skin. It is fabulous for your feet too, but do NOT apply this to your feet in the shower! You don’t want to slip and fall. Let me know what you think of this scrub…I know your skin will thank me 🙂
