Hey y’all…we’re excited to announce that we are participating in the One Room Challenge for the first time as a Guest Participant! To be honest, we’re not exactly sure what we’ve gotten ourselves into and while there is definitely a lot of excitement in the air, there is also a slight hint of panic. If you are unfamiliar with the One Room Challenge, it is essentially a 6 week mad dash to the finish line where you take a room in your home and completely transform it. Eek! Each week we will be sharing our progress with you and hope you enjoy the journey with us.

For our One Room Challenge, we have decided to create a Master Bedroom Closet where there really isn’t one at the moment. Since the house was built in 1901, the Master Bedroom sits next to a room, which used to be a porch, but was at some point converted to an enclosed space. Right now it is an embarrassing makeshift closet, which you will see a little later on in this post.

The room is a decent size with double windows, which is nice for natural light. What we are hoping to accomplish in the 6 weeks is to create a closet that helps keep our lives organized and still look pretty. Under the double windows we will place matching dressers. Then next to the window we plan to put a tall built-in unit for shoes, purses, etc.

On the side wall, we are hoping to create a weathered wood plank wall, with copper industrial pipes for hanging clothes. And then it may be a tight fit, but we would love to have a vanity in the closet for getting ready.Floorplan

Here is what we are envisioning:

We are in love with copper at the moment, so texture wise there will be lots of copper, weathered wood elements, and whites. This mood board definitely conveys the ultimate look we want to achieve in our closet.

Now for the moment we show you what we have to work with. Awful and totally embarrassing, right? Our hanging clothes are on movable racks, which just don’t work long term. Plus it’s become so unorganized and a dumping ground for things when we don’t know what to do with them. It’s a great space, but it is definitely in need of some major assistance! The first thing to go is the carpet and we’ll replace this with hardwood floors.

And there isn’t a door on the closet, so this is our temporary door solution…it feels like we’re back in college. It is just such an eyesore, so we’re hoping to install of barn door here, which is soooo exciting and better work or one of us will be in tears haha!

It is definitely an extensive project to take on in just 6 weeks, but we are up to the challenge and thrive under the pressure. Be sure to check back with us next Thursday to see what progress we’ve made on our Master Bedroom Closet for the One Room Challenge.
