DIY Chalk Painted Urn

It seems like I am forever on a quest to clean up our garage. Now, if you saw our garage you would probably scratch your head and say to yourself “this place is a sty”. Admittedly our two-car garage is a mess and there are zero cars parked in it. Why? Because it is piled high with junk, furniture that needs to be repaired or painted and a plethora of paint cans, tools, etc. It’s too embarrassing to even show you a picture.
Now, the good thing about an over packed garage is that there is always a hidden treasure. A forgotten gem that I was going to do something with. Yesterday, I literally stumbled over two of these gemsā¦a pair of resin urns – possibly Neo Classical in design. I’ve owned these urns for over 15 years. The have been displayed on fireplace mantles, dining room tables tops and side tables. Several years ago I determined that they were no longer my style and they were banished to the garage.
But, yesterday I had an idea. I grabbed one of the urns and the ingredients to make some of our Homemade DIY Chalk Paint in a creamy white.
Here’s the resin urn before it was painted. It looks okay but I wanted something more vintage looking.
Resin is just like plastic and I wanted an antiquated plaster or porcelain look.
So, I mixed up my chalk paint and brushed on the first strokeā¦and I loved it. The painting didn’t need to be perfect as I was going for an aged look.
Here it is with its new finish. Doesn’t it look like plaster? It feels that way too. The chalk paint really accentuates the design.
I was in need of something new and fresh on my foyer entry table – and the urn is perfect. I gathered some greenery and Nandina berries from my yard and made a quick display.
I really love how the red berries pop off of the creamy white…
I purchased the vintage binoculars and the original case while on vacation a couple of years ago at an antique mall in St. Augustine, Florida.
It makes my heart flip whenever I seen worn leather…
This little silver bowl was $1 at a country auction many years ago. It now contains sentimental beach mementos from a special trip to Seattle. Yes, I am a vacation hoarder!
I brought home some of these heart shaped stones. Aren’t they pretty?
My foyer table is an antique game table. The top folds in half and it becomes the perfect little side table – it has been in almost every room of my house at one time or another. I think it’s called a harp table.
I’m super happy with my vintage plaster urn. I think I may just go ahead and paint the other one too. Ā Have a great day y’all – go out and paint something š

So pretty! I think almost anything looks better with a little white paint. And I feel you on the garage thing! I can still fit my car in there but my husband got pushed out months ago :).
Hey Amy – Yeah – my husband is super supportive of what Jenn and I do – be he’s laying down the law and wants his garage space back š That garage is a hot mess – so we need to get started on clean up soon…but don’t hold your breath LOL
