On one of my recent walks in my neighborhood, I came across this old window that someone was throwing away…I just love when that happens! I knew that I immediately wanted to make it into a chalkboard. But not just any chalkboard…one that would hopefully help me organize my life a little better.
Aside from working on our 2 Bees blog, I also have a full time job that at times can demand a lot of my time and attention (not to mention my commute in Atlanta traffic 🙁 ) Because of this, a lot of my weekends are spent running errands and cleaning the house. I realized that I wasn’t really enjoying my weekends anymore because of my neglected chores from the week.
So I began to think back to my childhood and the chore chart my mother made for me and how much it worked. I thought to myself “Why can’t it still work for me as an adult?” This great find was my way to help me accomplish this!
The window was pretty dirty, but I knew I could clean it up. Plus, I love the distressed look.
I then used painters tape to make sure I didn’t get any chalkboard paint onto the wood trim.
Then I got to work with painting! Chalkboard paint dries pretty quickly, so I tried to work fast.
I put on 3 coats of chalkboard paint and once I removed the painters tape I used a small brush to get into the crevices that had been covered up.
And voila, I have a brand new chalkboard that cost me absolutely nothing, as I already had the supplies. I am so happy with how it turned out!
This is such a great reminder to just do a little each day, so that my weekends can be more relaxing. Plus I’m able to have a space for my upcoming plans 🙂
