Recently, Jennifer and I were out of town for a little lake time. My Honey Bee was going to be meeting us the next day. When my phone rang, I thought it was Honey Bee just checking in with us – but, no…he was calling to complain that someone had spilled black paint all over his side of our garage. Rut roh 🙁 Jennifer and I were scratching our heads trying to figure out what this paint could possibly be and we certainly weren’t aware of the spill before we left town. In fact the last time we were painting together at my house was several days before.
When I returned home days later, this is what the garage looked like…
It was chalkboard paint and it had spilled out to an area of approximately 3 feet by 2 feet.
Here, you can clearly see how thick of a spill it was…
This is what really happened 🙂
Honestly, we don’t know how the paint spilled. I did my due diligence – I read the can for cleaning directions:
I went online in search of how to clean chalkboard paint off of concrete to no avail. There was no information on how to clean this mess up. After a weeks time, the spill was still damp. Articles that I read online stated to wipe up the spill right away. I knew if I tried to start wiping the paint up, I would have an even larger mess. Our garage isn’t the cleanest, but I also didn’t want to add to the disaster.
I decided to be very patient and allow the paint to dry a few more days. Boy, am I glad that I did.
I grabbed one dried edge and began pulling the paint up in one sheet…
I was so excited when the blob kept together when I kept pulling it up off of the concrete…
It all came up except these small, damp spots…
I brought out my razor cutter to pull up the rest…
I am super thrilled with the final result.
More importantly, Honey Bee was pleasantly surprised and happy that all of the chalkboard paint came off of the concrete.
Have you every had a painting disaster? I’m glad I followed my instinct to be patient and allow the paint to dry 🙂
