I wanted to talk to y’all today about mantel decor, which I know for me can take a little while to pull together. I typically just stare at the space willing inspiration to magically appear and then I realize I should maybe try placing some items onto the mantel. I am so blessed that I have four mantels in my new home, but it is also a little daunting. I don’t know about you but I often have the hardest time decorating this space and with four of them it can at times feel overwhelming. I don’t want the mantel to look too cluttered, but I also don’t want it to look bare…it is definitely a fine balance.
Like with most of my decorating, I like to lay all of my items out that I have to use and then start just placing them on the mantel to see what works. The one thing that is a must for any mantel is an anchor. For mine I am using this awesome rustic map that a friend gave me from World Market…so lucky! This is really where you should start with your mantel decorating as you will want to decorate around this.
I love this farmhouse dinner bell that mom got years ago and now I get to call my own.
I wanted to incorporate a little pop of color and thought that this vintage cook book that used to be my Granny’s was the perfect addition. And I love using the wood slice for the backdrop adding to its rustic charm.
I of course had to incorporate these turquoise vintage mason jars to add a little more color to the right side of the mantel for more balance.
And don’t y’all love this vintage sifter?! I know I do! I got it for a great deal at a local thrift store and it is the perfect addition for the mantel.
And cotton makes everything better…
I really love how it all came together and I also love how much character my 1901 home has. I can imagine past owners using the fireplace to not only help heat the house, but probably use the open fire to do some cooking. Which, random side note, makes me think of It’s a Wonderful Life and roasting the chicken over the fire. There is so much history in an old home and I am so fortunate to be a part of it.
This vintage kitchen mantel decor really adds more charm to this space and I am thrilled with how it turned out. For me the biggest things I focus on when I decorate a mantel space is an anchor piece on the wall, making sure there is some height on both ends, as well as a little pop of color. The rest you can add or takeaway until you get the look you love.

Love how you brought in the vintage elements, Jenn. That map is totally cool. Love! Hugs, CoCo
Thank you CoCo! It took me a little bit to figure out what I wanted to do on this mantel and I am so thrilled with how it turned out. xoxo, Jenn
Great idea to organize the space by focusing on an anchor piece. Thank you.
Thanks JJ! I typically like to start with the anchor piece whenever I do mantel design.
just darling! I love that you used your Grandma’s cookbook!
I was so happy that I could incorporate her cookbook and it makes the space just that much more personal. Thank you Kimber!
