I must admit…since the holidays I have had a hard time getting motivated or finding inspiration to do anything. I guess it’s the after-glow of the party that I didn’t want to end. The other night I was watching television and my fireplace mantel kept grabbing my attention. It was so sad looking – because it had been in this state since Christmas was put away:
The mantel normally looks something like this:
And at Christmas it looked like this – all pretty and sparkling:
The mantlel looked so barren that I couldn’t decide what should go on it.
I was sure I wanted to do something new and seasonal with the mantel but didn’t really know where to begin. During TV commercials I would get up and collect a couple of things that I love until I had a good collection. I wanted elements of green, vintage metal and wood.
I started putting items into place until I was satisfied with the overall look.
The tarnished loving cup is a favorite of mine and I especially like the moss ball on top. The sticks were collected over time from our yard.
The vintage spool is from an old cotton mill in Georgia that closed many years ago.
I think the green bottles look great. This piece of wood I saved from the stump of our Christmas tree.
This aluminum tray was purchased from an antique store during our vacation in St. Augustine.
We purchased this wooden piece a few years ago. It is from a porch of a Savannah, Georgia home. I love the age and color.
I’m not gonna lie – this piece was hard to hang as it is about 17 feet up the mantle. Once we finally got it in place, we love it.
I think the new decor looks great!
It will stay like this for awhile – until a new season rolls through – or inspiration strikes again.
