After all of my Christmas decor has been taken down and stored away, the house feels a little cold and empty. I miss the twinkling lights and greenery that once adorned most of the rooms in the house. I especially miss the decor from the fireplace mantel as it is a main focal point in our family room. Do you feel that way too?

After Christmas the mantel becomes a clean slate to decorate for Winterā€¦another fresh start šŸ™‚ I typically gather up natural elements that I already have on hand and pick up the rest from my yard.

Winter Mantel Decor - natural elements of twigs, wood, pinecones, cotton and feathers enhanced by candlelight and deer bust

I’ve had this “Baby it’s Cold Outside” chalkboard for about seven years now. It is cold enough here in Atlanta (currently 29 degrees) that I usually keep this out for part of the winter. And by the way, this isn’t really a chalkboard – it’s black foam board that I cut to fit in this frame. It keeps the frame very lightweight and the foam is easily changed out throughout the year with seasonal and party phrases.

If you like him, be on the look out. Decor Steals often repeats deals-of-the-day and he might become available again šŸ™‚

I love how there are no two feathers alike. The pinecones are from my yardā€¦is it a sign of good luck if there are two pinecones on one twig? I sure hope so šŸ™‚

  3. Beautiful winter mantel…I could just cozy right up in front of that fire too! I can’t believe your chalkboard is black foam core board. That’s a great idea!! I’ve had one heavy chalkboard fall off the wall so a lightweight version would be awesome.

    Hugs!

    1. Thanks Angie! Yes, the foam core makes it so much easier to manage and hang lightweight on the wall. Give a go – you will be so surprised!
