Hey y’all…I can’t wait to share this adorable rocking horse makeover. But first…Do you ever feel so busy that you can’t seem to focus your thoughts? Or that the hamster-wheel of life is spinning out of control? Jenn and I have so much going on right now, we don’t even know which end is up LOL. I’m not too sure what we were thinking…we are participating in the six-week One Room Challenge™ and creating a master bedroom closet for Jenn’s home and there is only a week and a half to go.  After spending weeks getting my home ready to sell at the beginning of April (which by the way sold within hours of going on the market), I am now preparing for our move in just over a week. Oh, and on top of all of that, Jenn and I decided that it was a great idea to take vacations in April … Jenn to the mountains of Colorado as I headed to the beaches of Florida!

We managed to regroup this week and create a list of our priorities. We are back on track for the One Room Challenge™…because we have had some definite challenges in this closet space. I was tasked with trying to find a pair of thrift store bookcases and y’all know I love thrifting.

The first thrift store I visited was Goodwill and they sadly didn’t have any bookcases. But, what kind of thrifter would I be though if I didn’t peruse the aisles? Nothing was really striking my fancy until I saw this guy… (more about the One Room Challenge™ later)

This cute rocking horse just spoke to me. I knew I could give him a makeover and take him from his country attire to a more rustic and primitive look.

The best part? This little pony was marked for $4.94 BUT…on this day at Goodwill the 50% off tickets were yellow. So this cutie was only $2.47!!! Can you believe it? He’s large, heavy and made of 100% wood.

I couldn’t wait to get started with the makeover. The first thing I did was remove his fabulous bow tie. I next used fingernail polish remover to take of his cow markings and pink heart. The rocking horse’s tail and rocker were almost an orange color. I wanted a very basic finish and knew which paint finishes I would use.

I painted his body with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White. The rocker was painted in Amy Howard’s One Step Paint in French Blue.

I very slightly distressed the finish with 220 grit sandpaper and a bit of dark paste wax.

This is my favorite type of makeover…a small investment with a big impact. I eventually found the bookcases that we needed at another thrift store…and we gave them a makeover too! We will be sharing more of that project with you later this week.

Have you found any great thrifting deals lately?

Until tomorrow…

XO~Vicki
