Today we are sharing our new headboard for the guest bedroom.

Welcome to our monthly posting of Thrifty Style Team. This is an extra special edition because we are showcasing our spouses, partners and DIY sidekicks and their skills. In honor of Father’s Day I’m happy to share my sweet Honey Bee and our new headboard!

John, my Honey Bee, would be the very first to profess that he doesn’t have the DIY gene. Those projects are happily reserved for Jenn and I. John’s skills far surpass anything DIY related. He is the unsung hero, silent partner, biggest cheerleader and encourager. Honey Bee tolerates my DIY messes, even messier house, spur of the moment thrift shopping antics and so much more. His biggest blog contribution is his willingness to always help me figure out solutions and put things together.

Guest Bedroom Makeover

As I work my way through giving our guest bedroom a bit of a refreshing look, I determined that we needed a new headboard. As much as I loved the painted antique headboard, the honest truth is that it was just too short. In the photo below, there is an absence of bed pillows. When they were added to the bed, the headboard was completely hidden – as if there were no headboard at all.

Thrifty decor does not mean that the item(s) need to come from the thrift store. Jenn and I feel that thrift decor items are things that we find for a great, reasonable price.

I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on a new headboard. When I began my search, most decent queen-sized headboards were upwards of $300.00. Imagine my surprise when I found this beauty online from Walmart for a mere $79.00 and FREE shipping.

The classic, paneled look is exactly what I was looking for!

Time to put it together

When the headboard arrived just a few days later, the box weighed a ton! The UPS deliveryman struggled just getting it off of the truck. Honey Bee took pity on him and they both carried it to the garage. When Honey Bee began putting the headboard together, he had to bring each piece into the house separately because of the weight.

John gathered his (my) tools and got to work.

He stated that the instructions were thorough and easy to follow.

More importantly, it was fairly easy to put together.

Job complete in about 30 minutes.

Look at how beautiful it is next to the Hale Navy blue wall.

I just scored this gorgeous hydrangea art piece at Home Goods last week. Originally it was priced over $100.00 dollars. The clearance price was a mere $9.00!! 🙌🏻If I can’t use the art for the guest bedroom makeover, I will definitely find a place for it. Another thrifty decor score.

The new headboard looks great in the guest bedroom. As the bedroom makeover progresses, I will be sharing more.

There is a slight chance that I might be painting the headboard white. What do you think?

I am so grateful to Honey Bee – for his support, putting-together-skills and never ending love! We will be celebrating him this weekend, as he deserves to be – each and every day!
