… on Crescent Beach

A few weeks ago we took a little vacation down to Florida. Each year we try to make it to a beach somewhere for a little rest and relaxation. Typically we head down to Florida’s east coast and stay on or near St. Augustine Beach. This years locale was Crescent Beach. This might quite possibly be our new favorite beach. When we do a beach trip it is usually in the month of May… the weather is perfect, the water is warmer and the beach is less crowded. Our schedules didn’t allow for that this year, so we ended up going in September. That too was perfect. The beach looked deserted – we could virtually count the people that we saw in a day. Truly peaceful and private.
And this is the view we awoke to every day.
Also, the sun rises later at this time of year. Admittedly I never see the sunrise in my typical life, so this was a rare treat for me. The sun came up at around 7:00 AM each morning. Isn’t this glorious?
I passed these dunes on my daily walk.
For myself, a favorite pastime activity that I still enjoy very much is collecting seashells. I get caught up in the beauty of the different types of shells – their color, shape and texture. I’m like a little kid – I start out for a brisk walk on the beach but before I know it, I slow my pace, my head goes down and then I am officially shelling – exercising is over 🙂
Needless to say I have bucket loads of sea shells in my own home. I love using them in arrangements as mementos from special beach trips.
This sand dollar is a rare find and a real treat to add to my collection. I found it just like this, perfect condition as the tide was going out.
Each day I saw the same fisherman – ever dedicated to their sport. One day I got up my nerve and asked them if I could take their photograph. This is Jerry and he is 84 years old. He was very crusty but friendly. He said “If you don’t see me out here fishing…I’m dead” and gave a hearty laugh. Jerry’s preferred fishing method is old school net throwing.
This is Sam. He likes to get out to the beach at least three times a week. He crafted his own fishing pole holder out of PVC…a man after my own heart.
And these are unknown bridge fisherman.
On this particular day I was fortunate to be virtually steps away from this lofty catch. He put up quite the fight.
Now, I know that this isn’t the very best photo but I had to quickly grab my camera. This shot was taken on the only day that we had bad weather and we were sitting out on the balcony. It was late afternoon and a storm was brewing – the wind definitely picked up. This guy flew by on his surfboard/parasailing/flying contraption. He would jump in the air and fly like a bird. I was thrilled to capture the moment.
I love the birds and wildlife at the beach. I don’t have any of these birds in my neighborhood at home 🙂
I was walking back from the beach to the condo. In the brush I kept hearing a noise. I decided to stop and try to figure out what it was. Boy, am I glad I did. Look who was lumbering through the dune. A large tortoise…
He was making his way out to eat the sweet grass. He made a lot of noise when he ate – I had to take many shots before I could get this one with his mouth open.
Aaaahhhh…Total privacy. Why have we never been to the beach in September?
If you get the opportunity, get to Crescent Beach. It soothes the soul.

Thanks so much Robyn! It’s been fun getting the blog started together and we’re excited to see where it takes us…have a great day too!
My Aunt & Uncle have a place at Crescent Beach. They are a wonderful Christian couple, and their daughter just died of cancer. Instead of flowers, I wanted to get them something lasting & peaceful so I’ve been looking for Crescent Beach FL wall art. Do you know where I can purchase such? Please email me at address above.
