Hey y’all…are you ready for some cuteness overload? Well, good – I’ve got you covered!

Several weeks ago I ran into Hobby Lobby for “just one thing” which happened to be off-white thread. You know how it goes – who was I kidding? How can you walk into a mega craft store and not be distracted by pretty shiny objects, holiday displays that call your name, gorgeous signs with cute phrases that have you mentally redecorating your entire house and choosing fabric for new drapes.

Before I knew it I had a shopping cart and I was walking up and down every aisle in the store. On this particular visit I wasn’t looking for anything in particular. I was just looking side to side hoping for inspiration to strike.

And then, I saw a display with these super cute large porcelain milk bottles…

…and better yet was the price! Admittedly $8.99 isn’t a bad price but I more than likely would have passed these bottles up. Then I noted the clearance price of $3.23. Now, that’s more like it BUT it gets even better. The bottles were marked down 90% off the original price. So these vintage beauties were .90 cents each!!! Can you believe it? I bought 6 of them – at the time I had no idea what I was going to do with them. I just knew that this was a great value and I would figure something out.

And I did! I was inspired by all of the Sharpie art mugs that so many creative people shared on Pinterest. The porcelain milk bottle would be perfect for Sharpie art. I have a slight love of owls and I thought it would be so cute to create something for a Fall party.

Materials Needed:

  • Porcelain/ceramic surface
  • Rubbing alcohol and cotton boll
  • Sharpie Oil Based Paint Marker **Very Important – do not use a regular Sharpie Pen. Your artwork will not be permanent. The oil based paint markers are more expensive so look for sales and use coupons.
  • Stencil
  • Spray adhesive

I already had these adorable owl stencils in my stash. There are 4 patterns on the sheet…

Using the rubbing alcohol, wipe down the entire surface of the porcelain exterior.

Spray a very small amount of spray adhesive on the back of the stencil and adhere it to the porcelain. Be careful to not use too much spray.

Using the Sharpie Oil Based Paint pen – fill in the stencil art piece.

  • Carefully pull the stencil off and let the paint dry for 30 minutes.
  • Place the porcelain piece in the cold oven and heat to 400 degrees.
  • Once the oven temperature reaches the 400 degree temperature, bake for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, turn the oven off and leave your porcelain pieces inside until the oven is cold.
  • Your piece is now finished and dishwasher safe!

I created two milk bottles so far. I think this is so cute…

Here’s the other owl…

I can’t wait to use these when we have guests later this week!

I hope that you’re inspired to create some Sharpie art too. Think of using plates or mugs from the dollar store.  Remember…you must use the oil based paint Sharpie or your artwork won’t be permanent.
