Late Summer Family Room Decor – Simple Changes
Although I am secretly wishing for the cooler days of Fall, I can’t ignore the fact that we still have a lot of Summer ahead. Recently I changed just a few things around to create late Summer family room decor with simple changes.
It doesn’t take much to change the look of an entire room.
Typically my simple changes include:
- changing out decorative pillows
- adding seasonal elements
- bringing in fresh flowers
- adding colors of the season
Seasonal Florals
The coffee table is the perfect spot for a statement centerpiece. This vintage minnow bucket is from the 1940’s and is water-tight. It’s great as a unique vase to hold late summer hydrangeas. By the way, now is the time to cut hydrangeas if you are planning on drying them. These blooms have a slightly papery feel.
Can you believe that they were cut from the same bushes as these gorgeous blue blooms? It always amazes me how the hydrangea color changes as the intense heat of Summer beats down. If you’re interested, I can do a post about how to dry hydrangeas. Just let me know.
Changing out pillows is highly impactful for the overall look to a room. These blue-toned pillow covers speak summertime to me. Pillows need not break the bank. Think about shopping in your own home and rotating pillows from room to room. Better yet, you can make your own pillows like we did DIY Pillow for the Front Porch and with our No-Sew Pillows Made with Cloth Napkins.

I couldn’t get my little photo-bomber Gus to leave the family room. He loves how it looks, LOL!
Other summer elements are these blue books and plaster bird.
Again, the only things I changed in this family room were:
- 2 pillows
- hydrangeas
- blue books
- white plaster bird
To achieve this look, it took a matter of seconds.I’ll be happy when I can change the decor again for Fall! Have you changed up your decor lately?
