Y’all, we are so excited for this month’s Thrifty Style Team decor challenge. During the 4th of July holiday we were shopping at our local Goodwill store when we spotted the perfect project. We found what looked like an oversized produce farmhouse berry basket. Immediately we knew the perfect way to create a DIY aged market basket finish for this basket.
Thrift store find…
We started with this bare wood market basket.
The thrift store price was just $1.01. How great is that?
You can see that the wood is very thin. The staples are oversized and adds to the vintage charm.
The raw wood is perfect for…
…this Amy Howard Better With Age – Vintage Wood treatment.
It is lighter than stain. All you need is one coat applied to raw wood. This product has no odor and has a chemical reaction when applied to the raw wood. It makes it look like vintage barn wood, with a wonderful aged look. The effect is instantaneous.
Below is a perfect example of how well it works. You can see the difference between the before and after looks here.
Now our market basket looks like a truly vintage piece.
Don’t you think?
We are so thrilled with how quickly and easily our thrifted find could look vintage.
We are going to have so much fun using our basket throughout the seasons. Won’t it look great in the Fall with pumpkins or gourds tucked inside?

I can’t wait to give this wood treatment a try! It looks like it would be a great option for a coastal, driftwood look. And that cute little basket…Looking forward to seeing it staged through the seasons. Bambi
I love it! Great score and in the end the new stain on it is an excellent finish. Get that… end, new stain, finish? Sorry for being punny this morning.
What a great basket find, and I’m totally intrigued by the aged wood product!
Oh my goodness I LOVE the color of that stain!! It looks so perfect on that basket and you made that $1 look more like a million bucks! 🙂
Love when a DIY is quick and easy, and thrifty. Great find and thanks for sharing that wood treatment. Gotta get me some!
Did you just say Fall? Don’t do it, girl!!!! haha what a great find! You did great!!
What a gorgeous find…and I’m loving the finish you used! I will have to try that for sure…sometimes stain is just too much for me. This is the perfect balance.
I love this look. It looks so easy to do. Thanks for the tip. I can’t wait to give the stain a try.
love the finish on your basket. most people would have only seen that basket the way you bought it, in it’s raw finish. looks pretty.
That stuff is amazing. It made your basket look great. I love it so much. Thank you for this great tip!
What? I didn’t know they made that product!!! I’m going to have to try that out!
I am so glad you introduced me to this product! The finish looks exactly like aged wood!
Wow, what a difference. That stain is awesome and you did such a great job. Beautiful.
I can’t believe what a huge difference this product makes! I love how your basket looks aged and was completed so quickly. It seriously looks like you’ve aged it in an old barn for years! Love this makeover, hugs, CoCo
