Hey y’all…I know right about now most of us have visions of roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, dressing and squash casserole. Or at least I do – these are my holiday favorites. I am fortunate that I’m not hosting the big event which has given me spare time to do other things.
Lately I’ve been doing a lot of cleaning, purging and organizing. It feels so good to get rid of the junk that weighs down my daily life. Honey Bee has made countless trips to Goodwill Thrift Store and to the recycling center. On his last trip to Goodwill he was donating some of his clothes and on top of the pile I spotted this sweater.
It was one of his favorites for more years than we care to admit but it is a beautiful cable knit. Honestly, I was shocked that he was willing to part with it. Luckily for me I knew exactly what I was going to do with it and I grabbed it off the top of the donate pile.
We have already had freezing temps here in Atlanta. When the weather gets cold our family likes to get cozy. In fact we have a name for it…coco. The phrase “lets get coco” started when Jenn was a little girl. We don’t remember how or why it started but we do know it has never stopped. At this time of year and into Winter, we like to snuggle in front of the fireplace under light blankets, wearing soft PJ’s and drinking hot chocolate.
Another cozy element is fluffy pillows. I knew I could make a pillow out of Honey Bee’s creamy white sweater. I also found this beautiful charcoal gray sweater at the thrift store for half off…my lucky day!
IĀ chose to machine sew my pillows…
…but you could also do the no-sew method using Stitch Witchery from the craft store.
Here’s the steps I used to sew the pillows:
- Make sure the sweater(s) are clean and dry
- Turn the sweater inside out. After you make your first cut the sweater could start to unravel. You don’t want to risk that or that it will stretch
- Sew the bottom edge together.
- Cut the sweater from the side, under the arm holes.
- Lay the pillow form on top and see if you need to trim more of the sweater.
- The bottom and sides are sewn. Turn right side out.
- Stuff the sweater with the pillow form.
- Sew final side shut.
I have a lot of pillow forms in my stash. Whenever I get tired of a pillow I always keep the insert. I was able to complete three pillows in about 45 minutes.
They are soft, pretty and most importantly…coco.
I placedĀ them around the house with light throws.
The charcoal gray looks great paired with this plaid…
It is my sincere wish that you have a wonderful ThanksgivingĀ with family and friends. IĀ am grateful to spend the day with most of my loved ones – laughing, creating memories and enjoying a fabulous meal.
When the day is over Honey Bee and I will get coco in front of the fireplace, remembering the fun of the day and knowing how incredibly fortunate we are!
I am grateful for each and everyone of you!
These coco pillows are awesome! I love cable knit sweaters. They’re so comfy. No freezing temps for us in Florida but it was 63 yesterday which meant I was wrapped up in a scarf. Im breaking out the gloves at 60. I hope you have a fantastic weekend with your family. You guys are amazing and I’m thankful for your love and support this year. Big Coco hugs!
Hey CoCo – we find it ironic that our cozy term is “coco” and that we are fab friends with you! We lost our Florida blood a long time ago LOL – so we definitely like being cozy and love our cooler temps and changes of seasons. We hope you had a fabulous holiday. Hugs and love dear friend!
Love! The colors are perfect for my house, so when you’re done getting coco with them, stick them in a box and send them north! ;). Happy Thanksgiving ladies, I’m thankful for our new friendship!
Hey Kimm – you are too cute! We your holiday was wonderful – I’m sure that you are happy with everyone back in the nest! We too are grateful for you and your friendship! Cheers to a happy weekend!
I need to run to the thrift store! Love these sweaters!
Love this idea! We have plenty of sweaters from when we lived in Chicago. I may just have to repurpose a few. š
