Hey there…I hope your week is off to a great start!

I’ve been busy helping Jennifer get moved into the new house as well as getting a couple of projects done. I can’t wait for y’all to see her new home!

Back at my house I’m slowly but surely getting decor items checked off of my to-do list. I’m still on a beach vacation high and bringing just a few coastal touches into the house. Did you see my Coastal Inspired Summer Mantel?

While on vacation, my bestie Bambi and I managed a day on our own spent shopping. There were so many cute shops highlighting coastal charm and decor – I was in my element. Now, I’m going to confess something…and I hope I’m not the only person that does this. I saw something in a shop that truly inspired me to create for myself, the price tag was just a bit much. So…I secretly snapped a couple of pics with my iPhone. I know, I know – but I just couldn’t justify paying the high price and I knew I already had all of the materials I needed. Is that bad? šŸ™‚

I wanted to make a coastal inspired succulent garden similar to this one that I saw in the store…

Inspiration Piece

When I saw the sand in the glass container my mind raced with ideas! I had already been picking up shells from the beach. I had also collected a bag of beach sand. I was sure that once I returned home I could quickly put something together.

I have smooth river rocks from the Dollar Store that I use in various projects. These faux succulents were leftover from Jennifer’s wedding…

The first one I made was totally coastal. I used the beach sand, my collected shells and the succulents. In the inspiration piece they had added an additive to the sand to make it hard like glue. This is for my own home so I prefer the loose sand.

In the second container I used play sand, the Dollar Store rocks and the leftover succulents.

The sand looks so pretty in the clear containers. Oh yeah – these containers were leftover from a floral arrangementĀ and an extra large candle that had burned down.

Coastal Inspired Succulent Garden - beach sand, shells, rock, succulentsDo you like succulents? The real variety are easy to take care of but they definitely need more care than the faux kind. I didn’t want to have to worry about watering and maintenance.

I hope you’re inspired to make your own succulent garden. The possibilities are endless LOL.

  3. Hi Vicki, These are so pretty!! I have to be honest….I haven’t been a big succulent fan and I know so many people love them….but these are truly very pretty and I LOVE the beachy coastal feel with the sand and the rocks. This I love. You are so creative and I think it’s awesome when you can see something and recreate it for a whole lot less. Beautiful!! Can’t wait to see Jen’s cute home too. xo Lisa

    1. Aww Lisa – you are so very sweet and you’ve made my day! The beach getaway was really good for me creatively – I have so many ideas swirling around in my head. And with Jenn’s move we have even more ideas! Her new home is fabulous. I can’t wait for you to see it!

  4. Your free to you versions are every bit as pretty as the pricey one from the store. Such a smart idea to snap of picture so that you had something to refer back to. That is the step I normally forget to do and then can’t remember what it was that I liked! Lovely job!

Love your new blog design, by the way!

    1. Thank you so much Jamie! We try to remember to take pics of pieces that we are inspired by. It definitely make it easier when we return home šŸ™‚

  5. Just beautiful! I love how elegant you made them look! Prettier than your inspiration šŸ™‚

  6. Thank you for the inspiration.

  7. These are really beautiful ladies! Love the succulents and the nod to the coast. You guys nailed it. Hugs, Coco

  8. Fantastic! Sharing tonight on The Painted Drawer Link Party and thanks for sharing!

  9. I love having my camera out during shopping trips – I never remember the projects I want to do unless I take a picture! These turned out great, and I think the faux succulents look better than the real ones sitting in front of me!! (I’m really not good at keeping house plants alive…)
