Microwave Cart Makeover to Bar Cart with Modern Masters Metallic Paint…

Recently I have been working on updating my laundry room. Part of the updates include removing this old microwave cart from the space. I’ve had this cart for about 20 years and have basically been using it for storing items that don’t have a permanent home. So, when we we had the opportunity to work with a paint line by Modern Masters we jumped at the chance. I knew the perfect project was doing a microwave cart makeover to a bar cart!

This is what the microwave cart started out like pre-makeover. A tad stained and scratched up…and lots of faux wood. We couldn’t wait to cover this up with paint 🙂

First, we primed the cart with Zinsser 1,2,3 per directions.

We wanted a bright, fun color for our soon-to-be outdoor bar cart. We chose Green Apple Metallic Paint (ME706) found here from the Metallic Paint Collection. We also added a topcoat of  MasterClear Protective Cleat Topcoat

Isn’t this gorgeous? We stirred the paint very well before applying to the cart.

This is the first brushstroke…the paint has a slight shimmer and is silky smooth. Big plusses – the paint never dripped once and it was completely dry within 30 minutes, allowing to apply a second coat right away. We let the cart dry for 24 hours before applying the top coat. We really loved how easily the paint went onto the cart.

We changed out the handle for a stainless, vintage one.

Here is our new bar cart on the back deck! Isn’t she just beautiful? Such a drastic change from her dull beginnings!

We entertained with our favorite vintage cobalt blue. We can’t remember where the vintage “F” was acquired but it ties in nicely with the bright Apple Green.

We just adore all of these bright colors together…

This was a very easy and fun project. This bright paint gave a forgotten about microwave cart a new life as an outdoor bar cart. The slightly glossy metallic finish gives the cart a rich finish. When the sun shines on the cart the finish shimmers and reflects different shades of green.
