Rosemary Lemon Kitchen Soap

Hi friends, I know that it has been a bit quiet here this week. Before we get into my fabulous rosemary lemon kitchen soap, let me fill you in on a couple of things that are occupying my time.

Behind the scenes I have been a busy bee. One project that I really want to complete is Honey Bee’s office makeover. Admittedly, progress isn’t working as planned. Furniture placement and artwork just aren’t what I had envisioned. This is the way of most projects, right? Then I turned my attention to his office closet and oh-my-word! Lets just say this space has been his secret hidey-hole for four years now. I’ll talk more about my discoveries when the office is actually complete.

Next, attentions were focused on our storage unit. I spoke a bit about this space in THIS post. Anyway, Honey Bee and I managed to cram 12 large moving boxes into our SUV. I’m proud to say that they have all been unpacked and 5 boxes worth of this stuff is headed to the donation bin.

Our house is looking a bit disheveled at the moment – Honey Bee’s closet contents are spread out in the guest bedroom and dining room. The storage unit items are stacked up on the kitchen countertops. Needless to say, this is driving me a tad crazy, but day-by-day progress is being made. By Sunday night I vow that all of this mess will be cleaned up!

Okay, enough about my messy life LOL. Let’s get back to the rosemary lemon kitchen soap. Our kitchen is the typical workhorse of our home. We go through quite a bit of hand soap on a normal day at the kitchen sink – even before the pandemic. In my opinion bar soap lasts longer than bottled soap. Plus by making my own I can created whatever fragrances that I want.

To create this fabulous soap, I used a goat’s milk soap base , fresh rosemary and added essential oils of lemon. . No artificial coloring or added chemicals. Plus, I used a super cute bee design silicone mold. I was fortunate to find this one at a thrift store in Florida while on vacation. Previously, I used a silicone bee-patterned candy mold for smaller soaps.

This recipe makes four bars with a rectangular bee silicone soap mold. I prefer using the silicone molds over the plastic molds because removing them is so easy. The bars of soap literally pop out!

My base is goat’s milk melt and pour soap.Using the melt and pour soap bases makes the job fast, simple and they always turn out beautifully.I purchase the soap base from the craft store or online from Amazon. Using a store coupon of 40% off or when the soap base is on sale at 50% off is the best way to save money. There are also soap bases available in cocoa buttershea buttercastilleoatmealhoney and more. My brand of preference is “Our Earth’s Secrets” as I have always had great results.

I use an old coffee can to melt the soap.

Rosemary is plentiful in my garden right now. Pairing it together with lemon is so clean and fresh.

Notes

The isopropyl alcohol is not a necessary step. The alcohol helps prevent the lavender from turning brown.

You don’t have to use essential oils if they aren’t readily available. Consider using the zest of 4 fresh lemons.Use a combination of things that you love.

In the past I have made lavender soap, orange clove with himalayan sea salt and small scented bee soaps.

Not only do these soaps smell amazing, they are beautiful too!

Have you ever made soap before? We’d love to hear about it!

Stay safe friends. I’m going back to purging!
