Word of the year – 2019
Each new year, Jenn and I individually choose a word of the year. We have done this for several years now and we love it. Do you do this? You can read our words from last years post HERE. The word is chosen specifically for something we either want to focus on or possibly improve in our lives.
Rather than focus on new year’s resolutions (let’s be honest, they don’t stick with us) we prefer to focus on things that help us improve, while reaching our goals in a mindful and holistic way. By choosing a meaningful and purposeful word it acts as our daily guide, mantra and reminder.
Vicki’s Word
My word of the year came about in a very emotional way. I’m not sure if you have had a chance to read yesterday’s post or not, but our family has been through a lot in the past couple of weeks. Jenn and I almost lost Honey Bee…my husband and her dad. It was a true miracle that his life was saved. You can read the full story HERE.
Shortly after I knew that he was truly going to be okay and coming home in time for our planned family Christmas celebration, I was listening to music. Actually it was the first time in a long time that I was listening to non-Christmas music. Okay, okay, full disclosure I was blasting Beyonce. Suddenly I was overcome with indescribable emotion. Lets face it, I’ve cried a lot and have had my fair share of emotions lately, but this was different. Loudly and clearly the word “believe” came to me.
BELIEVE
2019 is the year I take a leap of faith and believe in myself and others.
- Faith and belief in myself that I can make anything possible.
- Dreams. They will be a reality with a realistic goal and plan of action in place.
- Rocks. Lean on them. Trust them. Let them help me.
- Prayers. I’ve personally experienced the power and miracle of prayers. Continue believing the power.
Jenn’s Word
Like mom, my word of the year came to me throughout the health scare my dad faced. It was one of the scariest times in my life and I found a strength in me I didn’t know I had. For me, I wanted to be a support for mom that she could lean on when she needed. It was certainly a trying and uncertain time for us and our family.
One thing I knew for certain was that my dad was a fighter and boy did he put up a courageous fight. It made me think of one of his favorite movies, The Wizard of Oz. His favorite character is the Cowardly Lion and no matter how many times he’s seen the movie, he laughs like it’s the first time he’s seen it. My dad also tends to make references to the movie, especially the Cowardly Lion’s speech about courage. If you have seen the movie, you know what I’m talking about. For 2019, my word of the year is Courage.
COURAGE
2019 is the year I start using my inner strength and be more courageous!
- Start taking more risks and going after what I want in life instead of sitting on the sideline.
- Dare to dream big and make a plan to go after them!
- Believe in myself! Negative self talk and doubt won’t get me very far in reaching my goals.
What does the future look like?
We have no idea at this point what 2019 will bring. To be honest we haven’t even had a chance to sit down and truly map out any ideas – personally or professionally. We have been celebrating our miracle and spending precious time together as a family and with our friends. We want to make positive changes in our lives that are impactful for us and others. Right now we are resting, healing and rejoicing in renewed life and spirit.
Please be patient with us as we navigate these next couple of weeks. As always, thank you dear readers for following along!
Much love!
