Celebrate Christmas in my cozy plaid Christmas family room decorated with rich reds, bright greens and buffalo plaid.

I am having so much fun with my Christmas decorating this year. Fully embracing traditional colors and plaids are truly bringing me great joy. As I shared in my Classic Red and Green Christmas Tablescape post, these colors and patterns remind me of Christmases from my youth. The holidays typically make me feel nostalgic and tug at my heartstrings. There’s just something about the combination of bright red and green that can instantly transport me back in time that takes me to my most happy places. Throw in a little bit of plaid and buffalo check and I have visions of sugar plums dancing in my head! LOL

Hey Santa

WhenI began decorating the family room for Christmas, it all started with this Santa Claus. Other than a couple of ornaments on the tree, he was the only new purchase.

As you can guess, I fell in love with his plaid attire and adorable woodsy accessories. On our Ireland vacation I became obsessed with sheep and lambs. They literally walked the roads and were in practically every field. My creative wheels were already spinning as to how I could incorporate them into my Christmas decor.

Like a lot of other families “It’s a Wonderful Life” is our favorite Christmas movie. For decades our family tradition is to watch this beloved favorite just before going to bed on Christmas Eve. Jenn gifted me this pillow a few years ago and I just love it!

Last year this skinny pencil tree was our Lake Cottage Christmas Tree in the guest bedroom. This year I moved it back out into the family room. I intertwined wired buffalo check ribbon – black and white, and red and black. The tree topper is a large bow made from the red and black buffalo check ribbon. TIP: Save your wired ribbon every year. It lasts a long time. Reuse it for a tree, wreath or wrapping gifts.

Finding a buffalo check tree skirt was difficult. My solution was to use an oversized scarf that I purchased a couple of years ago from the Target Dollar Spot.

The Reindeer Feed Pillow that I made a couple of weeks ago looks perfect next to the tree.

Sifting through the little bit of ornaments that I have (remember, the others are in storage) I chose all of the ones that fit with a rustic theme. Front and center is this fabulous sheep.

Most of these ornaments were handmade by me or by others as gifts.

A lot of them are dollar ornaments, either from Target Dollar Spot, Dollar General or Dollar Tree.

By the way, these wrapping papers were purchased at HomeGoods. They are high quality, thick papers and only $2.49 per roll. This isn’t a sponsored post or anything. Y’all know how much I truly love HomeGoods! When I appreciate a great deal naturally will pass it on to you.

Cute Lamb Alert

This sweet lamb art print is actually a framed postcard. I couldn’t resist adding it to a frame for Christmas. Who am I kidding? We all know this is going to stay here well past Christmas.

On the other side of the family room I only made a couple of additions. Cute Christmas tree signage and a bottlebrush tree.

Everything looks better displayed on an antique typewriter and salesman’s sample chair.

I hope that you have been inspired by my Cozy Plaid Christmas Family Room tour. What are you decorating with this holiday season? I’d love to hear all about it!
