Do you ever look at your house and think that you would like to make some changes? But you aren’t too sure where to start? Today we are kicking off a new summer series called Room by Room hosted by our friend Amy of My Life From Home. Each week we, along with several of our design blogger friends, will showcase rooms in our homes. We will share what we possibly love, dislike or want to improve. Today I will be sharing my summer entry refresh.
This is one of my favorite furniture pieces I own that I got for my old house. Mom painted this hutch and I just love the distressed look it has. Plus it is great for showcasing items and is a perfect little spot for extra storage.
Y’all want to know something embarrassing though? Since after Christmas, these shelves have been bare. I was just in a design funk and was having a hard time getting out of it. My busy season at work picked up and I was in a design rut. It feels so great to have the entryway refreshed for the summer.
Y’all know that I love to shop my own home to curate new looks and that is exactly what I did here. Some items weren’t being used and in my stash closet that I could pick from. Other items were in different places of my house that needed a new home.
I got this dough bowl a little while back at one of my favorite antique stores in Atlanta for a deal! You can find one similar at Wayfair.
I’ve had this gallery wall for a little while now and while I love it, it may be time to switch out some of the prints for new ones. If you’re looking to make your own gallery wall, you can see how I created this one here.
This buffet was another amazing find I got at a local consignment shop. I debated painting it, but decided to keep it’s natural color. It’s definitely still a thought that crosses my mind from time to time.
Do any of y’all shop at Joann Fabrics for home decor items? I have found some great deals there lately like this wooden sign that was 70% off.
Another thing I love to do is get the big bags of vase fillers from HomeGoods to use in my decor. I got this one last year and I kid you not, it is still fragrant. This bowl was also a great find from HomeGoods. You can find a similar one here.
And of course I can’t resist using hydrangeas…my favorite!
Wish List
Ironically, the decor issues that I would like to change in the entry are all right down the middle of the room. You know, the type of things your guests tend to notice as soon as they walk in the house 🙂
1. This fixture needs to go.
It is not vintage or original to this house. This fixture puts out about the same amount of wattage as four bad flashlights. I dream of something more modern that shines brightly in the foyer.
2. A runner or rug is much needed.
The entry is long and I feel that a runner or rug would add texture and color to the space.
Sadie and Teddy love to look out the window and greet guests, or squirrels – and this rug would help with clean up too!
Thanks for stopping by for my summer entry refresh. Be sure to visit our other blogger friends to get more entryway inspiration!
Beautiful! I love your front door and the hutch! And of course the dogs too!
Everything looks so pretty Jenn! You did a great job on styling everything and I can’t wait to see how the rest of your wish list comes together. I know it’s going to be just as gorgeous! Hugs, CoCo
That white distressed hutch is devine! And you’ve decorated it so beautifully inside – definitely no hint of design funk from my perspective 🙂
Best,
Kelly
i just love that white hutch!! And your wood bowls are so pretty. Cute puppies, too!
I LOVE your hutch. It’s a gorgeous piece and I always crave places to display things. With all the drawers you have in both pieces, you have created a lot of storage. Can’t wait to see your new lighting choice and rug someday. Thanks again for participating!
I love how you’ve styled your hutch and buffet! Your comment about the light being the equivalent of four bad flashlights made me laugh out loud! I hope you find a fixture you love – I always find lighting to be the hardest option to choose!
Your entry looks great! I love the beautiful hutch. You’ve done such an amazing job and I can’t wait to see the lighting and rug you pick!
Your entryway is beautiful! I absolutely adore your hutch and love how you decorated the shelves for summer.
Such a welcoming entry way. Love it all. Thank you for giving me permission to use a pic of your dough bowl. You can read all about how I made a knock off dough bowl on my blog. 🙂 http://mythriftyhouse.com/knock-off-dough-bowl/
