Painted French wall art for the guest bedroom.

Friends, we apologize for not having a new blog post for over a week! It was not our intention to take a break. With the addition of Gus to our family  (think newborn baby) and an overly-filled schedule – time slipped by at a rapid pace. Today we are excited to be back and sharing our painted French wall art plaques.

You might remember a few weeks ago when I traveled to the North Georgia mountains for a cabin-in-the-woods getaway. I managed to squeeze in some antiquing and thrifting while in Clarksville, GA. These French wall art plaques were one of my thrift store purchases.

They were only $1.00 each and I thought would be a perfect project for a little makeover.

Each plaque is made of resin, which is probably why they turned this orange and yellow hue. For the price, I knew that it was worth the chance of buying them and trying something different.

Trying a New Paint

It also gave me the chance to use a new-to-me paint, Rethunk Junk. This paint is resin based rather than chalk based.  From their own website I learned:

  • No Sanding – No Priming – No Waxing!!
  • Incredible Adhesion and Maximum Durability
  • Dries From the Inside Out For Faster Cure Time
  • Stronger Weather Resistance For Outdoor Use
  • Smooth Finish
  • Still Low VOC, Super Safe, Eco Friendly

Happily I report that all of the above proved to be true!

Blue Patriot seemed to be too bright, so I added a tiny dab of Midnight for a deeper shade of blue.

When the navy blue paint was dry, I started embellishing with Linen colored paint.

Again, this paint was creamy and dried like a dream.

Before the linen paint completely dried, I blotted with a paper towel. This allowed for my piece to have a weathered look.

Nooks and crannies were especially important to add white paint to.

Once the pieces were completely dry, I loved the overall look.

Typically I would have painted these French wall art pieces with white paint and then sanded down the design.

I’m glad I took a chance and did something more bold and colorful. You will be seeing these again as I continue to work on the guest bedroom.

Plus, I’m so happy with the paint itself. It was creamy, dried quickly and offers a beautiful finish.

  1. I have a project that is just begging for that kind of paint treatment. Thanks! And new puppies are a full time job. Mine is 12 weeks old today. I have gotten very little done for the last 4 weeks!

  2. You guys always find the best stuff! I’ve never heard of resin paint before but gosh what a fabulous finish. I’ll have to look for this the next time we’re up at the cabin. Love this color and I can’t wait to see what you’re up to. It sounds like you guys have so many fun makeovers in the works which is exciting. Big hugs, CoCo
