Master Bedroom Reveal – Room by Room Home Tour Summer Series

Welcome to my master bedroom reveal! Maybe reveal isn’t quite the right word. It’s not like the master bedroom has had a major overhaul or anything, I just haven’t shared the full room decor space before. There are still a lot of things that need to be done for the room to be complete, but is any room ever complete?

Master Bedroom Reveal

Since moving here to the townhouse full-time one year ago, this master bedroom has had an overhaul. For the life of me I cannot locate a “before” photo and I am kicking myself. Pretty much the only things that remained were the paint color (Sherwin Williams Quietude) and this fabulous antique fireplace mantel turned headboard.

Isn’t it gorgeous? This was an unbelievable yard sale purchase many years ago for $25!

The mantel was so heavily coated with layers of paint that you could barely see the carved details.

There was a new furniture refinisher in town and he was wanting to try out his new furniture paint stripping dip vat. Basically taking this giant mantel and dipping it into liquid furniture stripper. He wasn’t offering any guarantees because of how much paint there was, namely oil based battleship gray. Imagine my surprise, and his, when the mantel was returned to me and it looked this beautiful.

This sweet man only charged me $50 because he wasn’t sure it was even going to work and he said the paint just slid off! There is no way I will ever get rid of this piece. I measured and cut a piece of wood to cover the center rectangle. Cotton batting and fabric were stapled to the cut wood. Clips were screwed in to secure the cutout into place.

Nightstands

Being on vacation never stops me from thrift shopping. Several years ago I was visiting my friend Barbara in Florida and she took me to one of her fave consignment shops. I spotted this beautiful pair of French nightstands by Henredon Furniture. These beauties were scored for $75 for the pair!

The master bedroom is where I feel you can really express yourself with personal items and decor. On Honey Bee’s nightstand he has a photograph of me and a sentimental postcard from Assisi, Italy. He’s a yoga and tai chi master, so I thought that this ceramic hand was a cute touch.

 

Here’s my nightstand.

This is a framed photo of my mother and I treasure it. She was about three years old and I love the cute tricycle and her blonde curls.

Now you can see why I got Honey Bee a ceramic hand 🙂 This glove form came from an antique shop for $2. Blue, turquoise and aqua reign supreme in my decor. The vase is actually an antique pickling jar.

Dresser

Vintage dressers are hard to come by – this cutie was scored on a closeout weekend at a local antique fair for $85. The finish was already this creamy color and I was told it was original milk paint. Mirror, courtesy of Hobby Lobby.

 

Doesn’t this look like a grandmother’s vanity set? My favorite cobalt blue is featured on my mother’s mirrored tray.

 

Blue and white is so classic.

My mother gifted me this Haviland china dresser tray many years ago. I use it daily for my jewelry.

Armoire

Remember when I painted this chair and armoire?

When a good deal comes through my email I pay attention. Rugs USA is a fantastic place to shop for large rugs. I fell in love with this colorful Albina Winter Abstract. At the time they were sold out of the room sized rug that I needed. Therefore, I purchased two rugs that ended up being less than $100 and placed them side-by-side.

HomeGoods is a fave shopping locale when I can travel to get there. Love this garden stool.

The armoire houses our television. Absolutely love the Aubusson Blue chalk paint color. The porch column was purchased years ago from a salvage company. A base was made so that it could stand up in the room.

Remember, this room didn’t come together overnight. All of these items were collected over time.

6 Tips for a Master Bedroom Makeover or Refresh

• Use what you already have.
• Collect what you love
• Vintage black and white photography is beautiful and free artwork.
• Borrow from other rooms of the house.
• Shop thrift stores, consignment shops, antique fairs and online sales.
• Take your time.
