End Table Gets the Blues by Way of a Makeover…

Today we are showcasing this wonderful end table. It was purchased at a Goodwill thrift store for $8.00 ! She is made of solid wood but was in need of a little TLC.
The marks on the top were raised and the mystery gunk was dry and would not come off. We decided to lightly sand these spots so that the table top would be smooth again.
We were pleasantly surprised that this was a piece of Broyhill furniture 🙂
We decided to use a homemade chalk paint finish and we gravitated to this bright shade of blue.
We each began painting a different side of the table, and we were finished in no time.
When the table was totally dry, we applied clear paste wax to the entire piece.
Then, we decided to distress the finish. We sanded the edges to allow the wood to show through.
Next, we applied dark wax to the entire table.
Here you can see the detailed finish that the dark wax provides as opposed to no dark wax…
We were going to leave the brass hardware in its current worn state. After we completed the painting we really liked the idea of shinier brass. We used Brasso to see how clean the knobs could be…
Here, we gently rubbed it on the knob…
We absolutely love the completed end table. After applying the chalk paint and wax treatment, the table looks like a beautiful antique piece.
We don’t usually paint with dark or bright colors…but we will now.
This end table is such an inspiration piece – Makes us want to move some stuff around and redecorate! Have you painted any furniture lately? Send us a photo 🙂
Your table turned out so pretty. What a great shade of blue. It’s nice to give new life to a dated, but quality piece of furniture. It doesn’t look dated anymore. Kathy
This was so ugly I couldn’t imagine why you even bought it, then, I liked it even less when you painted it BRIGHT blue. However, I should have known to hang on. I am amazed at what the distressing and the dark wax did to it. It is gorgeous, I’d buy it in a heartbeat. I wish I had your vision.
Hey Patty-
I am laughing out loud!! You are so funny 🙂 Yes, this was a fairly ugly piece of furniture but the price was right. We were very happy with the finished look of our table. We really like distressing furniture after we paint it. We usually follow up with dark wax or a stain. This table does look great now 🙂
Thanks so much Patty!!

Hi Kathy-
Yes, we too appreciate saving furniture pieces and repurposing them. We were pleasantly surprised with our end result using the blue color of chalk paint. It really did give the piece an updated look. Thanks so much!
