My typical morning breakfast is plain Greek yogurt with raw almonds. If I’m feeling a little naughty I might drizzle just a bit of agave syrup on top. Boring, right? Well, the other day I was thinking about my mom and missing her something fierce on this particular day. Then my thoughts were all about how my mom was a fabulous cook and I started a running list in my head of favorite recipes from her. Before I knew it I was in my kitchen pulling together the makings of mom’s easy cinnamon sugar donuts!
Fo me, this is comfort food at it’s best – hot, gooey, fried and sweet. And it tastes like home, being in the kitchen with mom cooking up this treat for just the two of us to share. I felt a strong pull to make these cinnamon sugar donuts right away.
Needless to say this fabulous treat isn’t made often, typically only one time a year. That’s what makes them special. Trust me, I am tempted to make them waaaaay more than once a year because of how delicious they are. Donuts are easier to make than you might think.
Ingredients
- Tube of refrigerated biscuits. I used Pillsbury Grand Juniors - 5 count
- Vegetable oil for frying
- One cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
Mix sugar and cinnamon together, well. For the sake of ease I add the sugar mixture to a brown paper lunch bag.
Heat vegetable oil until it is hot enough for frying.
Carefully drop each biscuit individually into the oil.
Fry until golden brown.
Gently turn biscuit over to cook on the other side.
When the biscuits are completely cooked through, remove them from the oil.
Immediately add them to the cinnamon sugar mixture and shake gently.
After the donuts are coated with cinnamon sugar place them on a paper towel lined plate.
Serve immediately. These are best when eaten right away.

Trust me, these didn’t last very long. Honey Bee knew almost immediately what I was cooking in the kitchen…they smell that good!
Loving my new coffee cup too!
Thank you so much for allowing me to wax nostalgic and share a bit of my mother with you. Barbara Jean was a great lady and a wonderful mom and grandma. I hold my memories close to my heart and cherish our special moments together.
And the donuts really did make me feel better.
Until Thursday…
Sweet. My mouth is watering thinking about the sugary goodness.
These look so good! You know I love anything donut and I can’t believe these are so easy to make…it’s a dangerous notion 🙂 Hugs, CoCo
