We recently had the privilege of working with a new client, Brin and her sweet family. As soon as we met with her we knew we had the same design aesthetic and Jennifer and I were excited to begin this project makeover. Brin and her husband had already tackled all of the hard work.
The first time we met with her, they had just purchased their home and it was in the ending stages of being remodeled. Walls were already painted a serene shade of gray, a gorgeous chandelier was hung and the hardwood floors were redone. It also helped greatly that Brin and her husband have wonderful taste and a house full of beautiful furnishings, antiques, vintage photos and art work.
Brin was happy to turn her home over to us…she was 8 months pregnant, had a little toddler, was working full-time and dealing with construction dust every day.
On the day we first met Brin construction was happening around us and her living room looked like this:
Before:
She uncovered all of her lovely things so that we could see what she had. We were thrilled with the amount of furnishings and photography that we had to work with.
2 Bees in a Pod and Brin agreed to a work schedule and a date. We were given the house keys and free-reign of the house when the family went out of town for a weekend.
When we arrived at the house, the living room space had been practically emptied and we couldn’t wait to get started.
During:
Brin had purchased a rug from Ballard’s that she really wanted incorporated into the living room. We had never seen the rug so, that was the first order of business. Jennifer opened it up and we began brainstorming.
The color and pattern were both strong so we knew we would need some accessories in like color shades to pull the room together. Being that the rug was neither purple or pink, it was surprisingly easy that we could find sofa pillows and colored glass jars and vases that blended very well.
Then, we began bringing in the furniture pieces to layer and anchor on top of the rug.
Our wonderful, sweet friend April was in town from Washington, DC and offered her assistance. Although right now it looks like she’s thinking “What have I gotten myself into?” 🙂
See what we mean about her beautiful things? We were obsessed with these silver bowls and tea set!
We tried a couple of different side table options and this black table with shelves fit the bill perfectly…
These sofa pillows were a lucky color find for us. They really helped pull this room together.
All of the purple-hued glass were also great finds for us as well. We felt very fortunate that we could find the amount of pieces that we did. And – don’t even get us started on this stunning piece of furniture! Brin’s grandmother gave her this beautiful marble-topped table. Isn’t it gorgeous? Many of Brin’s collections are family pieces and she definitely treasures them. We can appreciate why 🙂
We changed out furniture from different rooms. The black console table was formerly in the foyer. Jennifer and I both felt that it would look great in the living room.
The living room makeover is complete and in our humble opinion, looks fabulous! We really like the juxtaposition of antiques paired with modern elements for a look of comfortable elegance.
We also made changes to Brin’s foyer and dining area, which we will be showing you soon.
This was truly a fun and creative project and we were so happy to work for this nice family. We recently heard from Brin and this is what she had to say:
“I thoroughly enjoyed working with these 2 ladies. I had a specific need, in that I had recently purchased a new house that was in shambles. I had a ton of “stuff”, no idea where to put it, and a baby quickly trying to make her entrance into the world. Vicki and Jennifer came into my house and turned the place around! It was like a new world for us and gave us the chance to finally enjoy our living room! I will definitely use them again!”
See what we mean? 🙂 We can’t wait to work with her again!
