Using my favorite color combination. I created a blue and white tablescape.

It seems that I have had a love affair with everything blue and white since I can remember. That’s why I still decorate using this classic color combination as shown in today’s blue and white tablescape. As a young eight-year-old, I begged my parents to paint my bedroom walls white. Visions of layering it with shades of indigo and denim hinged on having those existing lavender walls painted. Luckily for me I had wonderful parents who had just painted their living room and dining room white. There was just enough paint leftover to use in my tiny 9×9 bedroom. Sadly the super-cool papasan chair was out of the question and even further out of our budget.

In the Beginning

When I was old enough to start appreciating antiques and vintage items, my first collections were cobalt blue bottles and blue and white transferware. Even though I was just a teenager, this is where my allowance and babysitting money went. I still own these items – they are precious to me and my memories. All of this is to say…blue and white is my happy place.

Inspiration Born

This little vignette spurred the idea for a blue and white tablescape. Just that day I had purchased the two blue and white vases at Hobby Lobby for 80% off, so they were just $2.00 each. Can you say “score”?!

Friends were coming over for dinner and I always like for the dining table to look pretty when guests arrive. The first thing I added was this Irish linen white tablecloth. Honey Bee purchased one for me and my mother on a business trip many years ago.

How sweet are these placemats? My dear friend Linda gifted them to me for my birthday.

They are simply gorgeous – made on thick paper and if your guests are neat, they can be reused!

I layered a white dinner plate with a Royal Stafford blue and white luncheon plate for a salad.

White dinner napkins were wrapped with blue and white bakers twine. Place cards were made from blue scrapbook paper and a chalk pen.

Layering different patterns makes me happy. I’m never one to be matchy-matchy with anything.

Do you love table decor and tablescapes too? I would love to see what you create in your home!

  1. These blue and white layers are so gorgeous! I would have NEVER guessed those placemats were paper – they look like chargers. Linda is on a roll – love this so much, ladies! Hugs, CoCo
