You can easily make a Christmas pillow with placemats.

Once again the Target Dollar Spot lured me in with this adorable $3.00 placemat. I knew that I didn’t need it for my dining table, but immediately thought of making a pillow. Last year I made these embroidered feather pillows from placemats and everyone asks where I bought them. Most of the work has already been done for you in the creativity department. Let me show you how to make an easy Christmas pillow from placemats.

Materials:

  • 2 Placemats of the same size
  • Poly Fil stuffing – 20 oz.
  • Sewing Machine and White Thread
  • Iron

Lord only knows where my second placemat came from. It has been in my kitchen drawer forever and has no mates. Therefore, it became the perfect candidate for this Christmas pillow project. Plus I love that it looks like vintage French grain sack cloth.

Both of the placemats were ironed and well-pressed before and after I sewing.

Tutorial

  • Iron both placemats
  • Face placemats, right sides together
  • Start sewing from the middle of one of the smaller ends.
  • Sew continuously around all of the sides.
  • When you come back to the fourth side, leave an opening wide enough for your hand to fit through.
  • Using Poly-Fil, begin stuffing your pillow. First fill the bottom corners well. Keep stuffing to your satisfaction.
  • Sew the closure shut.

My pillow took approximately all of the 20 ounces of poly-fil. Luckily I purchased my bag at Goodwill. Honestly, you never know what you will discover at the thrift store.

Experience and time have taught me to keep the filling/stuffing opening larger rather than smaller.

How cute is this? We all know how costly and expensive pillows can be. An easy Christmas pillow from placemats for just $3.oo is well worth it. And it took me just about 15 minutes to make!

Plus, I love this phrase and song “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”. It sets the tone for the season and kicks off the holidays. More Christmas decor made it into my house this weekend. We have a busy schedule over the next couple of weeks, so I thought it best to get started.

Too bad there wasn’t a placemat that read “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas”.

Until then,
