Here’s how we made them:

Baked Cinnamon Donuts…

Ingredients

  • Baker's Joy baking spray
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 extra large egg beaten
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 TBS unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/4 cups whole milk
  • Topping
  • 8 TBS unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray 2 donut pans well.

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, melted butter and vanilla. Stir in the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients just until combined - do not over-mix.

Spoon the batter into the balking pans, filling each cup a little more that 3/4 full. Bake for 17 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.

Allow to cool for 5 minutes, then tap the donuts out onto a sheet pan.

For the topping, melt the 8 TBS of butter in an 8 inch sauté pan. Combine the sugar and cinnamon in a bowl. Dip each donut first in the butter and then in the cinnamon sugar, either one side or both sides per your preference.

These are special donut pans that allow you to bake the donuts instead of the traditional frying…therefore creating a healthy donut, right :)

Hey Amy! Thanks so much – we were fortunate enough to have a friend that gave us her donut pan. Prior to that I looked online and the least expensive was Walmart. Couldn’t find them in any stores. But it’s worth it for these “healthy” donuts LOL.

Oh, I am making these soon! But a question for you – I’ve never seen a donut pan before (and obviously I don’t own one.) Can these be made in a muffin tin instead? What do you suggest as a pan substitution, please? Thanks!
