Whenever we have a family gathering, there is usually at least one recipe from my mother or one of my grandparents. My mother was an excellent cook and when I serve one of her dishes, we all feel like she is right there with us! This Southern Broccoli Salad is one of our favorites. You can easily double or triple the ingredients – you can also make it ahead. I actually think it tastes best when made at least 8 hours ahead of serving 🙂
We also love a pile of bacon 🙂
Ingredients
- 4 cups fresh broccoli florets
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 8 strips of bacon - cooked and crumbled
- 1 small red onion - finely chopped
- 1 cup mayo
- 2 Tbs vinegar - I used red wine vinegar
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
Wash broccoli and drain well. Separate the florets from the stem. In a large bowl add broccoli florets, red onion bacon, and cheddar cheese.
In a small bowl whisk together mayo, vinegar, sugar and pepper.
Pour on top of broccoli mixture.

Only use the florets of the broccoli…
I used red wine vinegar but you can use apple cider vinegar or basalmic.
This dressing is fabulous…sweet, tangy and creamy!
Southern Broccoli Salad is one of my favorite side dishes…I especially love that my mother gave me this recipe.
Share this dish with your family and friends…they will love it!
